Lets first off by saying i am not the best spy in tf2, but i believe i have enough experience to say this..

If you are getting into trick-stabs and just dont seem to understand how to land them or you generally dont know what they are, heres a few guidelines..

First off to pull these off your enemy has to be in a state of desperation ( they want to kill you really really bad) The reason i say this is because you can lure them away to get them in the position you want for your stab to connect (i.e. corner-stab, stair-stab, matador stab) and whilst in this state its harder for the enemy to think clearly most of the time that is, with practice you can usually get them on a normal basis.

There are 3 main type of trickstabs.
1. corner-stab
2. stair-stab
3. matador-stab (fancy side stab)

Cornerstabs, imo are the easiest to learn and practice, basically what you are doing is tricking the enemy that youre fleeing, and you cut a corner, they are going to try to make the sharpest corner so they can catch up to you ( most of the time).
1. when cutting the corner look back to see where the enemy is postioned, and which way they are running towards you ( so you can compensate for the stab)

2. Usually i strafe around the corner when the enemy is just about to cut into it so they dont see where you are when they cut the corner, so basically the enemy has less then a second to react (which is highly unlikely) and you position yourself for the stab.

Stair-stabs, imo are easy but a bit tricky to learn, what you are doing is waiting at stairs or any slope in the game that allows you to jump over the enemy (crates, tables, control panels etc) and when you believe they are at the perfect distance you jump over them and get the stab.

1.What i like to do is give the enemy a fake-trick so they think i am spy and try to attack you.

2.When I aim for a stair-stab i usually aim to land on top of their head not over(this prevents you from over landing the stab), you should strive to make them crouch jumps because when crouch jumping it allows you to get over curved surfaces (i.e. heads)

3.And of course when youre in the jump turn between 150-180 degrees to get the stab. *remember everything after the head including a part of the back of the head will register as a back-stab*

To practice these it is really simple you can download the map tr_walkway and practice there, or you can try to actually do it on the job (harder way) by calling out fake tricks i.e. call medic and he'll run to heal you.

And lastly the matador-stab, basically what you are doing is strafing one way so the enemy follows you, and quickly snapping your view to get the stab.

This stab is hard to explain even for youtube commentators so i'll show you an example
[ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xfpk8u9bzDk&feature=related"]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xfpk8u9bzDk&feature=related[/ame]
basically this explains everything you need to know about that stab.

Remember to always keep practicing, sooner or later you'll get better, no one starts off a good spy (except varil) watch youtubers like stabby stabby and tf2slurgi they are amazing spies!

If you have any questions feel free to ask, and if you want a semi-private lesson pm me on steam.

Kazoo, this is the entire reason why I yell at you to not go Spy-hunting as Medic unless you can kill that Spy for sure, and quickly.

Aren't matador and strafe-n-snap stabs different? The vid seems to mostly be strafe-n-snap stabs.

But nice mini-tutorial anyways, N-Light. I'm just hoping a billion more Spy 'mains' won't pop up. i can never play Spy because everyone else wants to, too. D:

strafe n snap and matador count in the same category because they both have a side stab included, i guess matador is just a bit more head on and offensive. Varil and look at it this way, theres not a lot of good spies out their, so as long as your good you have nothing to fear! Because all you are doing is just taking their stabs, and leaving them to get burnt during the spy checking. (fave thing to do when multiple spies are on team)

No, I don't. Though I did think you played Scoot as your main before.

Been done with the lingo when it comes to spy stabs, I can do them all easy...except remember their names lol. Havnt played spy in quite a long while, but I did many of those diff stabs today and made a few people rage on Foundry ;)

I hope you don't classify me as another billion spy mains. Cause that is pretty much all I play >_>
