Best gaming HDD/SDD help

If you are only planning to have a single hard drive, then go for a regular 2Terabyte hard drive that is 7200 rpm in your price range (don't get the 5900rpm green drives, they are slow, and should be used for storage only).
SSDs are a lot faster but for around $100 you'll get around 120gb of space, games take far much more than that.

SSD WILL improve your performance!
Anything that's on your HD INCLUDING games will be faster and more stable. Not to the eye but to MANY benchmark tools! The faster your motherboard can transfer data from the HD the better, period! Go with a 160GB RAID 3 for about 150 and run your O/S off that and drop only the specific games u want on the SSD! MAJOR improvement, not so much on FPS but pretty much everything else! If u can buy 2 120GB RAID 3 6GB/S Transfer rate and then run one with games and the other with O/S

So ummm... why in the world would he run raid 3 if he is going for speed? Raid 0 or raid 5. Raid 3 is also very rarely a supported format.
EDIT: Unless for some reason you are confusing RAID 3 and Sata 3.

Also there are many more much better SSDs for cheaper. Kingston SSDs are not very good. Samsung, OCZ, Intel, or Corsair. Only ways to really go for quality.

I'd also throw in the Crucial M4 series. Also be wary of OCZ. I've heard good things about the newer ones but the older SandForce bases SSDs seem to have had a high failure rate.
Yeah. Crucial drives are nice. The new OCZ drives are really good. the old sandforce ones were terrible though.

Have this SSD in my personal laptop...
SAMSUNG 830 Series 2.5" 128GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive
Laptop boots Windows 7 and loads my profile in 16 seconds... everything is scary fast...
Have this model SSD in my business laptop and about 40 more of these in production at work in various HP business laptops. They work well and thier price has steadily decreased over the past few years.

For desktops if you're not buying an SSD I would at least get a 10k RPM mechanical drive, I've used a Western Digital Raptor as my OS\application disk for my last several builds.

I say spend an extra $100-$200 dollars if you buy cheap you are going to get cheap. You probly don't wanna go cheap on a Hard drive. I think the one i got was a 2.75T 7200 Rpms for about $150-$250 ish and it runs faster then my external and my main drive. That and 2.75T will take a while to fill up and you will be good for 5 or so years.
