Blu-Ray burner

Hey guys, Newegg has a new sale out & put the following blu-ray burner on sale: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...C-091812-Index-_-BluRayBurners-_-27136250-L0A

I did some searching & found better rated burners, but yet theyre more expensive. I know for a fact that I dont need a blu-ray burner just yet. So heres my ?: should I wait for a better deal to come along on a higher rated blu-ray burner or should I just go with a blu-ray player? I mean I already have my PS3 that plays blu-ray movies, but if anything I would prob get a blu-ray burner for backups (external hds already have stuff on them even tho theres plenty of space on my 2tb external).

Your thoughts/suggestions?

This is what I understand:

It's not just finding a burner; you also need to buy the software (or get it somehow through other means). For the most part, Blu-ray burners are very similar, though based on reviews, some perform better or come with additional software that can be useful. The one common thing they all lack is the software to burn/play Blu-ray movies and such. I could be wrong on that now since that's old knowledge for me.

For me, I would like the Blu ray for my PC, but.... I also have a PS3. My predicament is: is it better to buy the burner, or just buy a new PS3 to hook up to my TV (bedroom TV, not as big as my living room tv). Sorry this isn't much of a decision recommendation, but I thought I share with you my predicament when it comes to picking out a Blu-Ray burner vs PS3.

That looks like the blue ray player I bought about 2 years ago.

And like snipeye said..it's JUST the hardware. You also have to buy software to read the disk (stupid, i know).

I bought Corel WinDVD Pro. It's pretty nice. But is $50.

If you don't NEED a blue ray player, why buy one?

I would like to get a blu-ray burner sometime in the future so that I can store back-ups of important stuff (music, videos, movies, etc). The good news about those discs is that they can take up a lot of space on just 1 disc.

I recently read that in the next 2-3 years, either panasonic or phillips is working on expanding the size of the blu-ray disc, so that you can be able to fit like up to 500gb on a disc (please dont quote me on that as im not gonna do research to look it up right now since I gotta be in bed here in a bit). I thought the whole idea of expanding the amount that you can put on 1 blu-ray disc is truly amazing.
