Black Friday deals

So im thinking about either going to Office Depot or Office Max. I know that Best Buy will be crowded like usual & therefore dont wanna have to deal with that crowd. However, both office stores have good deals on external hard drives. I plan to get an external hard drive & take it out of its casing & use it as my primary drive. My question is (for those of you who have experience doing that), which would be the best external hard drive to take out of its casing? Before you even go there, I know it will void the warranty & I already have 2 external hard drives, so I dont need anymore. I have a 500gb internal thats already started the whining noises phase. It doesnt do it all the time, but I still hear em every now n then. Ive had the hard drive for coming up on 4-5 years now (been so long now im sure its near the end of its warranty period).

Walmart has a Toshiba hard drive, but ive never dealt with 1 of those. Itll be the same price as the Office Depot drive tho.

You're better off with a WD. I've never been treated wrong with the ones I use.
 
I'd assume walmart would be hell on black friday
 
Thanks Snipeye, I hope that deal stays til Black Friday. Also to huckleberry, I just missed the deal. Besides I dont get paid til tomorrow.

Also if you guys happen to see some great deals on a possible motherboard that supports the i5-3570k, let me know. Originally I wanted to go w/ the 2550k, but since the 3570k supports native usb 3.0, def cant pass that up (just found out that both cpus are same price, so gotta love that)! I have been checking out ASRock mobos since ive heard some great things bout em, but if you find something better, let me know!
 
I personally don't bother going anywhere on BF. If you pay close enough attention you can find many of the same deals and some better ones online on the stores websites and on many online retailers (amazon, ebay, newegg, fry's). The cost of shipping is deferred by saving on gas and not being trampled on by a million people trying to get an Xbox 360 before the person in front of them can. Plus for many online sites, the deals start early (amazon is already running deals) and go all through the weekend to Cyber Monday. I bought every piece of the computer I built and am currently running last year from online sales.

The Seagate Barracuda line is a good one, I have two in my current computer. If its DOA, newegg will replace it, but it's a hassle to do so (I won't buy from them anymore because of it)... amazon is much better in my opinion.
 
The other thing to remember is that this model has half the cache of memory, so it's performance won't be as well as the other. However, it is half the price so really, unless you must have the best performance possible, I think this will qualify as a great bang-for-the-buck option. And for the price, you can actually double your storage capacity for the same amount of money.

I will approve of this deal.
 
Hey Snipeye, the performance will come when I get myself an ssd. However, I dont plan on gettin 1 of those unless 1 of 2 conditions happen. #1 being that I get a better job or #2 theres an ssd that goes on a fantastic deal.
 
SSD prices have come a long way from even just a year ago. Now, you're able to pay under $1/GB for SSDs, which wasn't the case at all back then. I haven't kept up to date about the best of the best, but I'll look into the SSDs. I know Newegg runs BF deals on them, and with any luck, you'll be able to score at least one very good deal. Last year, I got mine with (I think!) $100 off + $40 rebate card. So I essentially paid about $150-180. That's me guessing like hell without any back up though. This year, I think you can score a 128GB for about $110.
 
I scored a 120gb hyperx 3k for $60 on amazon a month back. Also got a 256gb samsung 830 for $150 on amazon. Check slickdeals and keep an eye out.

Crucial m4, vertex 4, and samsung 830 are all highly recommended. Intel is great for reliability though a little slower and more expensive than the competition. Best to avoid most sandforce controller drives, but the hyperx 3k has good reviews from what I have heard thus far and I have not had any problems yet.
 
Microcenter is the only place I'll brave for Black Friday. And that's only if they put the newest i5 on sale again for 150 or less. (They did last year)
