I would assume that most of you here have probably already heard a lot about this, but it's unimaginable as to the amount of pain and suffering the families of the victims are going through right now. It's incredibly depressing, and I can't believe anyone in the right mind would ever commit such a disgusting crime. God bless those who fell victim to that fool, and my prayers go out to them and their families.

So sad. It was going to be christmas too. Poor kids :( makes me feel so bad

It is a very sad day indeed. I have a real hard time getting my head around harming children. When this kind of thing happens the only way I can deal with it is to resolve to do my part to make the world a better place.

Very sad, at the same time makes me very angry! Way to much violence directed towards children these days..

Mass shootings are becoming scarily common in the States....

What a tragic day indeed. :(

I wonder how something like this could happen. The Second Amendment says every US citizen has the right to carry a firearm. Of course, it gives you a safe feeling when you walk on the streets alone at night. But is this really the solution? I live in The Netherlands so I honestly have no clue how easy it is to get a weapon in the US, but from what I've heared it's like buying groceries.
That being said, the US government should undertake action to prevent another shooting at an elementary school. Like DoomTree said, it's "becoming scarily common in the States". We all seem to grief about it. But does ANYBODY do anything about it? And by anybody I mean people that could actually make a difference, such as politicians, journalists, etc.
I get it, Americans are obsessed by their guns and would never want to trade the freedom of carrying a weapon. But we live in a society were freaks, idiots & psychopaths walk around shooting people. What's more important, giving up the right to carry a gun ( which would reduce the chances of another shooting a lot, since there are no guns available ) or having to live with these traumatizing events? It's time people realize this isn't going to work. Has there ever been a story were a person stands up, and shoots the guy that's shooting into crowds ( still following me?). Look at the shooting in Colorado, if anybody in the audience had a gun they could've shot the two (?) guys that were killing everybody. But NO, that's not the case. Please, don't get me wrong. I've got nothing against the people that have guns in their homes, who am I to judge them. But look at the pain guns have caused. Innocent children have been killed. And over what?! I still don't know the reason WHY he even killed them. First his mother, then is father and the children and teachers at the elementary school.

Also, there was a parent trying to teach his 6 year old son to handle a gun. What happened? The kid shot his father by accident. His father is dead now. I mean, come on. What's the use of having guns to protect ourselves when it's only hurting everyone around us?

it is a terriable thing that took place in Connecticut yesterday. i have children, there is and can not be anything worse then a parent buring a child. exspecially in these sercumstances.

as far as gun laws and purchasing a gun like groceries is way off. Connecticut has some of the most strict gun laws in the United States. most states u need a State background check. Handguns you need a state and federal background check. in Connecticut not only do u need those two steps , you also need a licence for the handgun and one for the assualt rifle. seeing how assualt weapons have been banned in that state since '93 and would have been grandfathered in. outside of just taking everyones guns away period , he would of still been armed.

i have lived in Staten Island NY for the majority of my life. im 39 , and until we moved to Pennsylvania every school ive ever been too for my son has always had at least two armed NYPD officers at front and rear exits . since this tragic event , we recieved a robo mess. from my sons high school that there will be a police presence at the school from this time on. just one trained officer with a gun could of stoped this senceless killing or at least gave those kids a chance.

schools should be protected and secured like a bank that has tons of money or that has robbed before. my children are more important to me then all the money in the world and should be protected as so.

An update overnight stated that the gunman's mother was in fact NOT a teacher and was not affiliated with the school. How can someone kill his mother at his house, then take his anger out on innocent elementary children? Absolutely horrifying.

I think he was trying to say if you don't have guns available to you then people won't use them.
I cannot imagine what it is like to have your schools protected by police.

On another note assault rifles should only be available to the army for assaulting surly, what would you use a assault rifle for??
Do you need to put down on the form the reason for having it?

i have never been to a gun show before. i do believe that you should not be able to buy a gun without a thorough background check .

You cant. If you own a firearm that is not properly licensed in the USA/state or if you are doing concealed carry with it its against the law.

Do not blame the gun owners, sellers, or shooter for peoples mistake's. What happens when america outlaws guns? Guess what comes in next. Knives and baseball bats.

A fully automatic AR-15 rifle requires certain class permits to own and its only in certain states. To purchase an AR-15 you have to go through background checks and in my state we have a 3 day waiting period before you can actually pick up your AR-15 as they are not a small gun and arent to be taken lightly.

This man obviously had some major issues going on and its surprising no one noticed it soon enough. Thats it. Do not blame guns in general for this. Im 75% sure if he didnt have a gun then he would find an alternative way of doing this. Its just sickening that a human can behave like this and do this to kids.

I also feel sorry for the parents of the young ones who have been lost. So close to christmas and they will have to deal with this for the rest of their lives.

I think it's bs. Why the hell would you need a gun in your home?! Shooting someone who enters your property doesn't justify anything! What if a teacher had a gun on him? He could've shot the guy. But no, only the crazy, insane and twisted people carry guns and use them for these purposes. ( please keep in mind I've got nothing against people owning guns, in normal circumstances).
Then again, two wrongs don't make a right. Weapons should've never been allowed to enter our daily lives. This has gone too far

You have to admit though, there's no way the guy who shot up the Connecticut school would have racked up nearly as many kills with a knife and a baseball bat.

Thread Closed.

This is not the place to discuss gun politics or public policy. The events that took place there are tragic and are starting to be overshadowed by discussion of gun control.
