Hardware Issue?

Last week my computer started crashing on me after I took it apart and cleaned it. Since then Ive been getting odd BSOD crashes that are not making any sense. Here's my process of fixing it:

Most common crash: Kernel_INPAGE_DATA_ERROR

Which Im assuming is a corrupt OS installation. So I tried a repair install. Didn't Work.

Also did chkdsk which found no bad sectors or corrupt files.

Sometimes I get just a BSOD crash that tells me something along the lines of a invalid process or such has occurred and it does a memory dump and restarts.

When it restarts it tells me "Operating System Not Found" and I have to wait a few minutes and try restarting. Eventually it will reboot correctly.

After all this I thought maybe its My hard drive dying. SO I bought a new one at Best Buy........

Did a fresh Install, Installed WoW and played for about 1hr and a half to get another crash...

This one is something about the invalid process and memory dumps and restarts. On this restart it sometimes hangs at the VAIO screen, which Im assuming is the BIOS.

Is there anything anyone has some input on? Id like to figure out the problem so I can get it fixed. If you think its not a faulty hard drive Im going to return the new one.

I have tried running on ONE stick of my 2GB ram and then the other 2GB stick to see if its a RAM issue but it will crash on either stick.

PLEASE HELP lol.. Sorry for the long post.

EDIT: Another crash. It actually says that a system process has crashed and caused to computer to shutdown, not invalid process.

Looking over this dump file I recommend that you do the following.

• Update all drivers possible
• Check for malware (I'll list recommended tools further down)
• Check your disk for errors (I know it's a new drive but still run a chkdsk /f)

For the malware scan I recommend running full scans with [ame="http://download.cnet.com/Malwarebytes-Anti-Malware/3000-8022_4-10804572.html?part=dl-10804572&subj=dl&tag=button"]MalwareBytes[/ame] and SuperAntiSpyware in safe mode, again i'm aware it's a fresh install but still please do it.

Please try connecting your drive to a different SATA port as well and see if you continue to get a BSOD.

Lastly, is your copy of windows legitimate as in did you purchase it or did you pirate it? If you pirated your OS did you download an untouched ISO and use a loader (eg: Daz Loader) or did you download a "pre-cracked" ISO?

Its a DigitalRiver Windows 7 Home Premium download. This is where users can download their Windows 7 CDs that they didn't receive with their laptop. And Im using MY cd key off the bottom of the laptop.

Also with it being a BRAND NEW hard drive and a fresh install. Should I really be worrying about malware?

Its a DigitalRiver Windows 7 Home Premium download. This is where users can download their Windows 7 CDs that they didn't receive with their laptop. And Im using MY cd key off the bottom of the laptop.

Well I ran SuperAntiSpyware last night and all it found was some ad-ware form surfing the internet looking for fixes to this problem, I suppose. It does seem to be an intermittent crash but as odd as it sounds from what I'm noticing is that it crashes more often when I start typing. And typing to fast or too much will make the laptop lag horridly and sometimes give me the system process crash.

Bad CPU or Keyboard connection?

Im almost determined to say that its not really a HDD issue and return the new one I just bought, but first Id like to figure out what's causing it though.

Boy do I feel dumb, I had no idea it was a laptop :facewall:

I'm not too experienced with laptop maintenance so i'm not sure about this but is there more than 1 sata connection on the board? (I doubt it) if there is try connecting it to another port. (The drive I mean)


I don't think a keyboard issue would be causing the BSOD you're experiencing, at least based on the process that causes the issue. Still it couldn't hurt to check the connector.


Did you burn your digitalriver copy of win 7 (Or whatever OS you're using) to a disc? Or did you boot from a USB? If you burnt to a disc did you burn at x2 speed (lower is better)? Or did you just burn at however fast your drive can go?

Because from your .dmp file and the info you posted it seems like all of these BSOD crashes are primarily driver or hard-drive related.

For example, your .dmp crash appears to be a Critical Object Terimination (STOP code f4) which would indicate a boot drive, device driver or critical process failure.

In your log, it looks like this case was a process failure in your ntoskrnl.exe which would be a Windows system kernel that handles a bunch of different system management items.

The problem is, most issues related to that specific error STOP code are caused by cable problems, hard drive jumper or driver issues or a damaged OS.

Since you ran through most of those fixes and replaced your hard-drive, AND are getting other errors in similar categories, it's possible something might have gotten damaged on your motherboard or hard drive bay connections.

I took it apart to clean because Ive never really cleaned it out yet, and I think it gets a little too hot at times so I wanted to check the fans and clean the heatsinks. I took it apart and cleaned the fan off, which wasn't really dirty, and reapplied thermal paste to my CPU and GPU since they both were really hard. Which I then reapplied again today at work with and industrial thermal compound. So far this evening everything has been going well but Im not going to count my chickens. Im thinking after all it may have been a bad connector or connection issue.

I did run Memtest86+ on it today while at work and ran at least 3 passes on both sticks in each slot and both passed all 3 times. And it was reporting my CPU info correctly from what I could tell as far as L1, 2, and 3 cache and FSB speeds.
