So I'm rather new here & was told to drop in to Vent while gaming, which I have done this a few times since joining but here's what I've found.
Since I prefer to be in a channel with people actually in the same game server as I am in, I hop in an TF2 vent channel, then join a TF2 eGO server & look for eGO players whom are in a vent channel & have very little luck with that (there's always folks in the "R" server but that just seems like another big "lobby" channel.

I'm also a little surprised that the vent channels don't some how correspond with the game servers, rather then been named TF2 Channel 1, 2 ect but hey that's me.

So do you all actually use Vent "for gaming" in TF2 or just use the in-game voice chat & if so how do you dictate which channel your going to be in ?

Thanks

I stay in my hidden channel. It's for the cool kids.

We do use it for actual gaming from time to time. Mostly at night when people are on. During the day? Not so much. It's easier to communicate in-game than in vent.

I personally join Ventrilo to socialize. When I'm in a channel, sometimes all the occupants of said channel are on the same server; this is usually the case when we are filling servers together. Otherwise, everyone can be on different server. I use in-game voice to play with my team, so it can be a bit of a headache to listen to both game and Ventrilo. (I will mute Ventrilo if I am really into the game.)

Maybe there should be a channel for each server then 3-4 general purpose channels? Usually the first question [I/or someone joining] vent ask is what server you guys on? Usually youll get just one server, but sometimes cross chatter between folks on 2fort and CP rotation happens for example.

Thoughts?

It seems logical to me

It is, but after a while people move to another server and are too lazy to switch vent. More confusion is created that way than just asking were everyone is.

As kazoo said, I join ventrilo to talk to people and maybe play some other games.
