Motherboard help

when in the market for a new motherboard, what do you mainly look for in a motherboard? i really have no clue what to look at when looking at motherboard specs

Interesting you should bring this up. My friend is in the market for a new motherboard and I have been helping him find one.

It really all depends on how much you want to spend. Mostly everything now is duo. Most aren't cheap. But they are worth it.

With a motherboard as well you want to look into what kind of graphic card you want to get. AGP seems to be taking a step back, and PCI express is everywhere.

You want AMD or Intel processor? If you are buying just a motherboard and not a bundle pack, make sure the processor comes with a fan.

You want to look into what type of chipset you want.

I have only used ASUS motherboards. They really work well with me. But there are alot of different ones out there.

Since your on here I am guessing you want a gaming motherboard.

You need to see how much memory you want to get as well. My motherboard has DDR2, but my friend had DDR1, so when he got his new motherboard he picked up a new set of DDR2 memory. I think you can use DDR1 in a DDR2 motherboard but don't quote me on that. I think you can but it doesn't work as well.

thanks a lot ann, well yeah that's like all the stuff i knew but like i dont really understand Front Side bus, and the chipsets and stuff.

Yeah start wtih AMD or Intel? I have bought several motherboards and my best advice is buy a mobo that will do everything you need, now and in the future, but nothing more. I mean you have to really think about it. So if the next 'best mobo' is only $20 more, it may be worth it just for the little extras, but at some point you have to stop. For example at one point I had an Ultra 790i, the thing would go tri SLI and REQUIRED DDR3 RAM,but I never planned on doing that. But there are a couple of advantages to that board.
I currently have a NForce 750i SLI FTW and I have to say it ROCKS and does everything I need.

you cant use DDR1 in a DDR2 motherboard. That is for sure for AMD since the memory chip and controler is found in side the CPU.
