PCs to replace consoles

I don't know, I respect his predictions but I just don't see it happening. Mobile/App gaming is the next big thing but will it completely replace consoles? I'm just not seeing it.

I think there could well come a point when companies stop manufacturing and developing new consoles, simply saying that what we have is what we get, but will that stop companies from continuing to make their big budget games? When the mass market continually runs out and buys up every year's itineration of COD, Madden, Assassin's Creed, etc, why would they stop milking that?

tl;dr I think it's a possibility that companies will stop developing new consoles, but I don't think that kills the console gaming market by any means.

And don't get me wrong on the flip point, PC and mobile/app gaming can only improve in the mean time.

I tend to agree with the sentiment, things will come back full circle. But I will be interested to see why mobile gaming goes & how much of the market share it will take.
As some one who's played both PC & consoles and sorry but there's just no comparison.

Well I'm not sure about this. At least, I don't hope his predictions will come through. Of course, PC has way more advanced graphics than the consoles. But not everybody can afford a beast of a PC to run the games on normal/high these days. That's the good thing about consoles, you don't have to worry wether the game you bought will be able to run on your console. You buy & play. Plus, you don't have to install the game. Which is another plus for me.

But, when I think of my gaming experience over the years, I've had the most fun on the PC. MMORGPs like World of Warcraft, Guild Wars 2. And games such as Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare have brought me lots of fun.

Then again, when you're at a friend's house with a couple of friends it's nice to play some Fifa on the Xbox ( or PS3, whichever you prefer ) with a few beers. That's in my opinion better than all the gaming experience I've had on the PC. A lot of PC gamers play online games for the social aspect. Meaning, if you take away that, they will sort of lose interest in the game. But to be honest, unless you're really in vent like us ( well, most of you. Excluding me ) I don't really call it socializing. The console however, can be played whenever. Even if you're having a party. 4 people can play at the same time, having fun. That's a more realistic way of socializing. Instead of going into a guild and making friends. Of course, it's human contact but.. it's not a face to face "friendship".
I mean, when I'm alone I much rather play WoW ( I don't play that anymore ) for example than go on the Xbox. At least most of the time.
But when friends from school or from my street ask me if I want to play some Fifa, CoD, etc. I'd much rather do that. Unless I'm addicted again to WoW. Then I'll always want to play that.

Oh and, from my point of view the PC is way more addicting. The games it has to offer such as WoW are known to be extremely addicting. Without a doubt there are loads of people addicted to Fifa, CoD or any other game. But they're not really known for being that addictive.

To be honest, I'm not really sure where I'm going with this whole story. I just felt the need to tell you guys my point of view on the whole PC vs Console gaming argument.

This being said, my preference will go out to the console. Mainly for the social aspect. But gaming wize, I regret to inform you that the PC will win. Without a doubt the Personal Computer is so advanced, the consoles will not be able to compete against it. Unless they allow people to upgrade their own console by inserting new graphic cards, etc. But I don't see that happening.

If Nintendo dies, the world will be a worse place. :(

Xbox and Playstation on the other hand can go die in a ditch, and not a peep or groan would let out or crocodile tear be shed. ;)

Virtual gaming is the next big step, besides that I think PC gaming > everything else. If you have a good enough build to support all the games.

I dunno. PC is the most played platform, with more games released on it than any other console, but will it replace consoles? I doubt it. Consoles are just so easy, turn it on and play the game. No crashes, no bugs.

Hey Jesusfreak54, I have to disagree with the last sentence. There have been many recorded cases of consoles crashing (mainly due to ventilation issues). However, there seems to be fewer bugs on consoles than on PC, so I will agree with that statement for the most part. However, to say that theres no crashes or bugs on consoles, I cannot overall agree with that statement. Theres no such thing as a "perfect game".

If nintendo Dies...the civilization will fall ( because i will help with that! )

Honestly this PC gaming vs. Console gaming argument is growing a little tedious these days. Its an argument for the short sighted, those who can see whats on the horizon.

Hell, between Steam Box and the Razer Edge there seems to be a concerted effort to move PC gaming away from the actual PC and on to dedicated game boxes. This isn't a fad, its a trend for those who can see the writing on the wall. The PC tower has dropped out of favor, OEMs are moving more and more to an All-in-One type build. AMD is in trouble, Intel is moving towards mobile processing because that is where it needs to be to survive. Microsoft is pushing an OS that seems to be made for everything, but the traditional PC environment. The money has shifted, the game is changing, if PC gaming is going to survive in the long term...it needs to move off the PC.
