Everytime a new game starts in our dust2 server CS:S crashes and I get a "hl2.exe is not responding" message

I can quickly open cs:s again and join the game by missing that round, but it happens again once a new game starts

I have also just noticed the exact same problem occurs right when I enter the highschool server.

I had this happen on my first computer and I am now on a different one with the same results. So I am assuming it is a steam issue.

Any help will be appreciated.

I have also noticed that if i type motd while in game then a crash will occur

I feel your pain, I had the hl2.exe crash error back in December (on TF2), just out of the blue.
I Googled the he!! out of the issue. Defraged, verified, uninstalled, ran through all my drivers, added command lines to my start up ect.
Nothing did the job, I was able to join Mann vs. Machine (Co-Op) games but not multiplayer. And if I played a M vs. M then tried to play mulitplayer 50% of the time i'd get in, but then 50% of the time it would crash after 30 minutes of so.
Note: it did seem to me that it had something to do with MOTD, but was never able to verify that

Nothing I did solved the issue, & Bam !!just out of the blue about a week later the crash just stopped happening yet nothing had changed. Wish I could say I had help for 'ya but ...

Oh and FYI Steam Support was of no help either

Your problem is related to Flash player, I believe. Update your adobe flash, and your video drivers, then try again to join the servers.

Exactly what Blue Flash said. I had a related problem with TF2, and updated my Adobe Flash.

Also, on a side note, this may have been just me, but my anti-virus caused a few crashes here and there

I had the same problem and it was obnoxious, I fixed it by disabling the MOTD in console.

I can how ever state that Flash player wasn't not the culprit in my case, as it had been mentioned in one of the numerous Google search I had done trying to find a fix, & mine was up to-date.

Did you try a clean and complete reinstall of flash player? I have heard similar things from individuals who experienced this problem, to find out that despite an up-to-date version of flash, it was corrupted.

Indeed I did, this isn't my 1st rodeo but thanks for the reply it might help someone else down the road.

Still to this day have no clue as to what cause my h2l crash, nothing had changed on my end what so ever, all drivers & such were up to-date & functional.
Even went so far as to remove all drivers, flash ect & reloaded every thing from scratch & still had the error.
Then less then a week later with nothing changed & no steam or TF2 updates. it started working (it was also crashing on servers with out MOTD).

I think the best part of the whole experience was how little use Steam was

I just did a check for video driver updates recently, and so far I haven't had a crash..hope I don't end up jinxing myself though.

EDIT:

Some other things I did that might have played some part, be it big or small, in the solution:

- Delete .BLOB files in my Steam folder

- Run Disk Cleanup (Start Menu - Accessories - System Tools)

- Verify/Validate Game files, followed by Defrag game files

- Checked for Updates (Windows, Steam, etc)

Thank you all for the help and advice, i ran a driver update and 16 of them need to be updated.

Unfortunately im not too savvy on how to do it myself and the driver updater is wantng $30 to do it. Anyone this service before and know if its reliable or an easier option for a bonehead like me?

Just go to the brand of your drivers main website. Put in its info, and it will do it automatically. For say you have ATI gfx card. You would go to ati's website search for either something to to effect of "Downloads, updates, or products". Do this with each individual driver. Although 16 drivers seems a bit high ...

P.S. :stay away from software like that in the future as it can be malware or scams. It's best to do it yourself and if you have trouble ask a trust worthy person.
