Question on Graphic cards

Okay keep in mind that we have alittle one here, so I can go crazy and buy the best thing out there.

My wife is finally getting pissed at the lagging, and told me to upgrade the computer. I am looking into the Geforce 8600 series. Going to get a new mobo and of course processor. Already have those picked out(Keeping price down).

Now my question to you all out there: Most of the 8600 cards are GDDR3. My mobo is DDR2, will a GDDR3 work well in a DDR2 mobo?

Depends on what kind of uhh well I guess grr slot, meh forgot the word but PCI, AGP, PCI-e, or PCI-e 2.0 depends on which one you have and what kind the 8600 cards use which I assume is PCI-e
 
Yes PCI Express 16x.

Thanks for the reply, but I talked to a few friends and they said it really didn't make much of a difference. So I ordered my new parts for the computer.

Not bad for not having much money around. Just can't wait to get everything up and running. Should have it by monday. And I hope this stops some of the lag I've been having on the servers.
 
oh btw, GDDR3 and DDR2 are completely different basically if it has a G infront it's just a graphics card memory it has nothing to do with the RAM type
 
DDR3 on GPU;and DDR2 On Mobo is not problem at all each run in their own . it would be nice if you can go DDR3 on Mobo also but its your call . Peace.
 
I think the weak point in your system is that graphics card. I am wondering how much you spent on it and how much more a better one would have cost.
Great processor (for this game), good RAM, decent Mobo, poor video card. That is my opinion.
 
Well the Graphic card was cheaper. I really wanted to get somthing better, but after looking at the mobo and the CPU, I didn't have much more money to spend. lol. The Ram was cheap though. It was on sale and came with a Mail in rebate. Of course after Newegg went to its 3rd step(Which means orders can't be changed) I found a nice 8800 card that was on sale and around the same price. Oh well, such is life. But I can always save up to get a new Graphic card. Should only take a year. lol.
 
For a low price, you cant beat the 8800GT or the 9600GT. Those are what you need to look at, no question
 
Oh well, it was too late anyway. Got the stuff today and already installed everything. Computer is freakin fast. Maybe in awhile I look into getting a newer graphic card.
