Internet problems?

So I have Comcast for my Internet service. I'm supposed to be getting 25 MB download and I'm not sure on the upload speed right now. At the time of the installation they said they had to install the modem on the opposite side of where my computer is at because they had a better signal coming from over there. That was back in December 2012 when they installed their equipment. Since I was on the opposite side of the house I couldn't hard-wire my PC to the modem. I went out and bought a USB wireless adapter. That was working okay at first, but I noticed lag and only 3 bars of signal on my computer. I used that for a couple months and got tired of the lag in BF3. So a couple of days ago I went and bought 75 feet of network cable (1 50 foot cable and 1 25 foot cable) and a coupler to connect them. I spent the day in the attic trying to get it across the house which was very exhausting and I was sweating my butt off. However, I thought if I did that the Internet would be faster, but it is not. Their is only 1 other computer using the network. I'm not sure if the other computer is using all the bandwidth or what. That computer is in the room where the modem is at. Webpages are loading really slow which they used to be quite fast with the wireless USB adapter. Does anyone know what I can do to fix this? If you need any more info, let me know. :facewall:

Go to www.speedtest.net and post the picture of the results it gives you at the end, please.

You can also do a ping command from each PC to see if there's a difference
start -> run -> type cmd -> hit enter -> type in commandping google.com.

Note, do the speed test mentioned above from each PC also.

Also what router are you using? And have you asked Comcast to test your line for you ?

FYI, not a big fan of "coupling" network cabling.

That's quite a high speed. Perhaps you're having more software problems than anything. Have you tried reinstalling network drivers perhaps?

Perhaps you're router may not be performing up to spec either. Try resetting it.

First off for what I know cause I'm using time warner cable. If you use like a splitter or something to connect 2 cables it CAN block most or some signal however.. In my house my modem is downstairs where my computer and room is. Where as my mothers computer is upstairs and using a wireless adapter. SHE even gets 3 bars. Mind she my room is in the exactly place where her room is upstairs soo nothing wrong here. Problem is, has to be the house itself.. Reasons? Don't know but something is blocking the connection with all. Hope that helps.

Let me be sure I'm reading this right the above is from your computer, hardwired correct?

The one above here is the other computer which is hardwired & sits closest to the modem/router correct?

The speeds your posting look more then good enough.

We assume you anit-virus & malware are up to-date & working, properly, nothing on your PC side that might be causing you issues?

I'd assume its his router... I had router issues with Linksys and I went D-Link and I have never had ANY internet issues since. Linksys was crashing, internet was sucking and going slow, D-Link im getting my true internet speed now and I hardly have any issues.

Do you have a docsis 3 modem? And you have an N router and receiver? Make sure the firmware is up to date on your router. And I would take the router out and go straight from modem to computer and test and see what you get. Do you have the wireless on? There are a lot of variables. And it can easily be the coaxial cable, if you have a pinch point in it.

Yes, that is correct. However, now it appears that the problem I was having has fixed itself. =/

I have a ARRIS TG862 Router. Comcast supplied it. It is the Comcast Xfinity package with TV, Internet, and phone. They connected a TV cable to the back of the router which I've never seen before. I think wireless is on, but both PCs on the network are hard-wired.

So is the problem still with only your PC or all PC's in the network.
And your still getting good speed results from http://www.megapath.com/speedtestplus/ but your getting slow load times on the PC & you are now hardwired, correct?

If the above is true then I don't think contacting you ISP will help much.

Apparently the other PC loads webpages fine. I haven't tried that website, but I've been getting good speeds from speedtest.net and then later on there will be bad speeds so the problem comes and goes. The Internet will be fine for a couple of hours and then turns laggy and won't load anything. I just tried to test on speedtest.net and got an 'Upload Test Error.' I tried again and got 21ms ping and 25.31 MB download, but upload keeps saying connecting and the test never finishes. Yes, I am now hardwired. :facewall:
