May. It is the forebearer of the end of the school year and the beginning of summer. We shed our coats, our backpacks, and hopefully some of the winter fat from around our waists. Interestingly, in the gaming world many of us do not shed our old games. For some reason there is usually one game that ”clicks” with us and we stick with it, maybe leave for a bit, but always return. Non-gamers call it "addiction", but what do you call it? How do you explain games like CS:S and DoD:S still going strong after more than a decade and despite forecasts of their demise? Why does Ric like CS:S, BigBird BF3, and Annihilator DoD:S? Unfortunately I can not answer these questions, but would like to hear your opinion. In the meantime, you can read about your favorite old or new “addiction” in this month’s newsletter. Enjoy.

C-WHiT is the newest Counter Strike:Source Divisional Council member. Since he's new to us, I asked him some questions about CS:S and his vision for its future.

Q) Tell the readers a little about yourself. Where do you hail from, what do you do outside of eGO?

A) I grew up in a small town in Jersey called Cherry Hill (near Philadelphia). Then lived for several years in Manhattan (Upper West), and since then, have been in and around the PA/NJ/NY area.

I am currently finishing up my medical training en route to being a health care provider (almost done, finally).

Q) What is your history in eGO (when did you join, have you been leadership for other divisions, etc.)?

A) My history with eGO began in 2007, when eGO decided to delve into the world of custom maps for Day of Defeat, which resulted in a merger with Kustom Kettle (at the time, the biggest custom map community for DoD).

As a Kustom Kettle administrator, we were grandfathered into eGO, as full admins, by JohnT, Artimus, and Kendle. The merger lasted about a year when both communities decided to part ways. Many of us, however, stayed active in both communities.

From there, I was brought up through the leadership ranks for DoD and had the honor of serving with Slayr357 as Co-Council for DoD.

I stepped down for a bit to focus on some real life engagements, however, since then I've rejoined the ranks of Council and am back in full force, now helping to lead the Counter-Strike Division.

Q) What duties do you have as a Council member for CS:S?

A) All Council members are here as support structures for the Division Leaders, Advisors, and members. We are here to give assistance and guidance when appropriate. Moreover, Council members are here to ensure that the division is running smoothly and to deal with any issues that may arise. My role in CounterStrike is much the same.

Q) What do you hope to accomplish as Council for CS:S?

A) Of course, I have an ever-changing "to-do" list. One of my biggest goals is to give the servers some old fashioned "TLC" (Tender Loving Care). We'll be evaluating each server and discussing as a leadership team how we can best serve our members and the CS community as a whole. We've already begun the changes, especially on the High school & Jail servers.

Transparency. We as a leadership team will try to be as transparent as possible with changes. We are going to try to focus on our members. After all, this is their division, They are the heart and soul of our division. It is in our best interest to listen to their concerns/suggestions.

Another goal of mine is to bring the division closer together. One of the amazing things about eGO is that each division seems to grow closer together and members become more than just simply playing mates, instead, more so a family. This is an aspect we should foster for the well-being of the division and for future growth.

Q) Where do you see CS:S and CS:GO in the next three months?

A) I believe our servers will continually see a rise in rankings. We've already been reaping some of the benefits of the changes we've implemented. We will work hard to ensure that this division will always strive and work to better the division in every aspect.

Q) Are there any special events coming up in May, and what are they?

A) We haven't worked out the details fully yet, however, we always try to have new and exciting events on a regular basis. Whether it be a royal rumble, special scrim, or a tournament, feel free to contact any one of our EC's or EC Advisors to get more information.

Q) Thank you for making yourself available, it is much appreciated.

This month's Clan Wide Interest focuses on recruiting. What can it do for you? What are the benefits? Does it make me stand out? This article should answer these questions and give you a better understanding of recruiting in eGO.

Recruiting is essential for eGO. We, as members of EdgeGamers, are its lifeblood. More recruits means more members, which leads to a larger and stronger eGO. Did you know you can earn some nifty things by recruiting?

For example:
  • Earn specific forum medals, such as Recruiter, Advanced Recruiter, and Recruiter of the Month.
  • Obtain recruiter achievements
  • Gain recognition among the entire community
  • Perhaps even win free games, items, and more.

Recruiting drives also give players the opportunity to bond with fellow clan members and Leadership. Do you really want a member of leadership asking who you are when another members recommends you for a promotion or an award?

Here is a list of the some of the Recruiting Leadership for each division:
These members will always have an answer to your recruiting questions and are available to help you with recruiting anytime.

If you do not know how to recruit, you can attend your division's recruiting drives and check out the Recruiting forum. You may have to request permission to access this forum. Alternatively, you can pm your division's Recruiting Leader or even ask a top recruiter in your division.

So what are you waiting for? Now that you've heard just some of the benefits of recruiting, go get started. Help eGO and help yourself.

Lets take a stroll through Crossfire, Call of Duty's most popular server.

You may wish to gear up before we start out. Sniper rifles and assault rifles are very popular in this neighborhood. Don't forget your smokes. Crossfire is a fairly symmetrical map. Either team will proceed down a short bit of road and make a right turn onto main street.

From uphill spawn as we go forward you will find a tavern on your right and a corner shop. On your left you will see some shop fronts, mostly rubble and the diner. The diner actually boasts a second floor, some rooms with a view. Across from the corner shop you can see the hotel. You should recognize it. It's got a great hulking bus parked right in front. Now...

Did I tell you to step into main street? I know I told you to bring smoke. No the ticket is not refundable, and you signed a waiver. I also warned you that people like to bring sniper rifles. Well, such language! For the rest, may I remind you of the famous words of Bill Cosby who said, "Go faster, go faster, you fool, you fool!"

We will just sprint along here and duck into the alley, take your first right. That's right we are at the bakery; well most of us. Across the street is the coffee shop. If you look back... keep your head down... between the hotel and the diner is the storage house. Behind the bakery you will find access to the second floor. Go on up and take a look see, I'll wait for you down here.

Ok you're back in one piece. Say where's the tall guy? He didn't keep his head down? Well let's move on. Here we have the restaurant. Why yes it does look like it's been through a war. Mind the rubble. I hear they are going for an open air feel. A little too rustic for my taste.

Now across the street just to the right of that tall apartment building next to the coffee shop is the road leading to downhill spawn. See those mashed up store fronts on the right? Look up. That's another high spot favored by the snipe... get back from that window. Sheesh.
Now all the way down the end of the street beyond the spawn point there is another vantage point for looking down.

You may have noticed the cars along the side of the roads. They look like good cover, right? Well just so you know if you ever see one starting to burn it means it is ready to blow up. So remember that Bill Cosby quote. It could save your life.

That's it for the tour. No, there is no safer way back. Safe, as if. This is Crossfire.

Hello EdgeGamers! As May arrives, so does the end of the school year (for those of you in school anyway). I hope that all of you students pass your finals with flying colors and do not pull out too much of your hair in the process. Hang in there, you’re almost through.

Here is your Counter Strike (CS) article created with information provided generously by our Division Leader Zimmy.

You begged and you pleaded, and finally you got it. The "it" I am referring to is the 5 v 5 scrim tournament. The tournament was organized by, and hosted by, Fl!p and Fart Vader. The winning team, Team Mudkip, emerged victorious after the post-battle dust cleared on the second day. Their prizes for winning the tournament included the CS Competition Ribbon, One month of ESEA, One month dedicated supporter and the CS Tournament winner achievement. Congratulations Assass1n, Spark, Sir Mudkip, craz_yPANDA, and Mr. Gocho on your victory and enjoy your new goodies. For those of you who participated in the CS tournament, better luck next time, and be sure to thank Fl!p and Fart Vader for making it all happen.

The CS servers are doing well thanks to everyone’s continued support. This past month the 24/7 Italy Server broke into the Top 100. Keep up the good work everyone!

The ever popular jail server has recently undergone several changes in gameplay. In addition to new rules, there were many new plugins installed that increase the features available to players:

  • For the cutthroat terrorist prisoners of the jail server, you now have options that allow you to rebel and execute revenge on your taskmasters. By typing !store into chat, you can smuggle in a scout sniper rifle or even vanish into thin air, to go for the close kill.

  • For the ruthless counter terrorist guards, the new jail plugins give you features that increase your arsenal for killing the rule-breakers. The !store menu allows CTs to obtain infinite ammo to deal with prison riots and break outs when you are left fending for yourself, or even become the notorious Master Chief.

For full features and new jail rules, please refer to the CS:S Jail Server Guide courtesy of Christy. Be sure and thank the leadership for the time spent improving jail.

The CS Leadership recently awarded the dedicated members of the CS division for their efforts and hard work in recruiting members and proving themselves valuable members of the community. The list is quite extensive and can be viewed in its entirety here.

Attention all you competitive CS players! The eGO CS:GO Server has recently been changed to a Competitive Classic game mode. The competitive classic game mode allows players to join a matchmaking process based on which map you choose, or you can choose to join a community competitive server. The competitive game mode is a 5 v 5 scrim game mode that keeps track of your rankings based on your record. So if you and your friends are looking for a challenge, head over to the eGO CS:GO Competitive Server, IP: 84.173.227.124

Thanks for reading. Have a good month folks.

"God Bless America!" Now, who could have said that? Well I am quoting it's none other than Day of Defeat's very own Advisor, Megs A Tagger. I was fortunate enough to have found her lurking the DOD:S Vent channels (as she usually does) for a quick interview about what's new in the division.
EVENTS

Have a yen for events? Well if you're like me, you love having a good time with eGO members, and these events will blow your mind. The regular events that the DOD:S division holds are:

Hardcore Rush Beacon Tag on Tuesday
Nuclear Winter on Wednesdays
Wild Card Night on Thursdays
Regular Realism on Saturdays

Now, if any of those rang a bell or sparked your interest, then by all means, feel free to drop in and join us. All events are posted in the DOD:S discussion forums by Megs A Tagger herself. Be sure to check out that thread for the schedule.

ADMIN TRAINING

Recently promoted but haven't used your admin in awhile? Then you might want to head over to the appropriate Admin Central forums and sign up for a class. The division currently is running Admin 101 and Advanced Admin classes.

So, what are you waiting for? Whether you are new to the admin team or a veteran who has lost their mojo, sign-up and get yourself equipped. You won't regret it.

SERVER RANKINGS

All servers are currently in the top 120's, with four out of the five being in the top 50! Anzio's ranking pops up and down like a Whac-A-Mole convention, so if you like some quick-paced action, hop on Anzio.

Also, if you enjoyed watching mustoreo eating, get ready for The Return of the Mustoreo. Megs A Tagger has announced that if all five servers reach the top 50's, she will live stream on eGO forums her eating five mustoreos. That's right, you heard it straight from this guy, five juicy, mustard filled Oreos.

PROMOTIONS

The DOD:S team would like to congratulate Q-Tip and primeZERO on their promotion to the Event Coordinator team.

Q-Tip will be heading his events during the evenings, while primeZERO tackles his events during euro-friendly hours. Why not pop in and support these gentlemen as they host events from the DOD:S event server?

COMPETITIVE TEAM

Blue Stealth and Chuck Norris have just assembled an awesome team line-up for the Season 7 TCN league, so go out and support them.

All matches will be held Wednesday nights and you can spectate the action on SourceTV. To do so simply join 174.36.38.46:27020 and have a gander at what your DOD:S team is made of.

As always I would like to thank the Day of Defeat Advisor, Megs A Tagger, for providing the information above.

While you're e enjoying the fine weather that has finally arrived, quite a lot has happened in eGO’s "blocks" division. The news includes everything from a world-reset to players being able to have their own NPCs (non-player characters). If you haven't been on the minecraft server recently, you must hop on and check out the new content: IP: mine.edge-gamers.com

The Minecraft world reset took place on on April 1. While your precious creations are gone (even all your shiny diamond armor), there is now a wealth of new content available to you. One of those features includes the introduction of Grief Prevention, which was added in an attempt to end griefing on the server. With this recent addition, you can now stake a claim to land. Check out the thread on Buying Claims for more details.

Additionally, mob spawners are now protected; only leadership can unlock the blocks, preventing them from being destroyed accidentally or by griefers. Minecraft leadership has also raised the limit of allowed home teleports to three per player. A noticeable feature that came with the reset was the addition of Citizens which allows players to have their own citizen NPCs. Read how to get your own citizen NPCs in this thread by Minecraft Division Leader Cyprias.

If you have any questions concerning the reset or anything pertaining to the Minecraft server or division, the Minecraft leadership team will gladly assist you. Shoot them a message some time.
