I've recently looked into DayZ and I'm really interested in playing it with whoever has it! I was just curious as to how it works and how I could get it the easiest and cheapest way possible, as I am short on money right now. All efforts in guiding me at this point will be greatly appreciated! I would love to chat about the game in ventrilo too! I'd like to know the basics, how to start, and what my objectives are!

just wait for the stand alone If not the mod is free though though you have to buy the retail game which is on steam. "Arma II Combined Operations" or "Operation Arrowhead", they also have a complete pack.

Cheapest way is to buy the entire ArmA 2 package on Steam. It's cheaper than buying it all separately.

Once you've got that, you can easily install the latest version of DayZ here by using "Play withSIX" http://dayzmod.com/?download

When that's all done. Just survive!
My tip would be leg it to one of the larger cities/towns, stock up on medical supplies, food/drink, find matches, find a gun, find a hunting knife and axe. Finally a water bottle.

Your then good to survive in the wilderness by simply hunting animals and finding water sources (lakes/ponds etc).
And don't worry about the zombies, its the other players you have to watch out for.

I appreciate the replies Chiller963 and Dobbeh! This game just keeps sounding better and better. I mean c'mon! Hunting, surviving, zombies, and supplies! It's like a full on fps version of minecraft but much much better! Haha!
Btw Dobbeh, I heard you can get Arma2 Free, and just purchase the OA, then download the DayZ afterward. Is it true? Does the free Arma2 work?

And how long until the standalone? I heard there's an alpha testing going on right now!
