How to stream with Adobe Flash Encoder (aka for free)

I want to preface this by saying that I have no experience with streaming, but I was the only guy in my dorm 15 years ago who could rip and convert DVDs. Some of the settings will not be optimal, ask an experienced streamer for proper bit rates and sizes. This is just a basic howto for getting a stream up and running without spending money. This is geared towards twitch but you should be able to adjust settings to work with whatever service you use.

Downloads:
1. Flash Media Encoder
2. VHScreencap

Instructions:
1. After you have created an account and logged into twitch goto http://www.twitch.tv/broadcast to download the config file for your twitch account.

2. Install the programs

3. Setup VHScreencap
a. click on Configure VHScrCap
b. click on Create New One

c. for full screen click track screen

d. below are some good middle of the road settings, you may need to tweak them for better quality or limited bandwidth.

e. close

4. Setup Adobe Flash Media Encoder (fme)
a. open fme
b. click on file and then click open profile.

c. select the xml file you downloaded from twitch
d. click connect in the output side

e. on the input side make sure that VHScrCap is selected

f. adjust your bitrate and video size (this is how it will appear on twitch)

g. click start

5. start playing your game because you're streaming now.

Why use adobe encoder when you can use http://obsproject.com/ (its free and works just as good if not better than x-split)
