So ive been studying prices at Walmart for the Vizio hdtvs. Ive noticed that they had LCD's in stock, but apparently this is being phased out by LED. What is making LED that much better? Have the companies made the power consumption levels about the same or is there another better reason?

Pretty much my impression is that LED is just the successor to LCD. Went from CRT to Plasma. Plasma to LCD. Now LCD to LED. There was that awkward time where 3D was expected to be great, but that's really more of a fad. The other possible reasoning is government regulations and such; old CFL light bulbs, for example, are now being phased out for LED. My thinking is that LED-related production is hitting its stride, so businesses that use/produce LED-related equipment are able to produce more LED products at a lower cost, especially given the cross-platform uses that LED is being used for. TVs, monitors, screens, lights, etc. etc.
