I disagree Lawliet. I have this card:

And get 60-80fps in most games running at a decent resolution. Until recently I had a bottleneck with my processor and not video card. This card is also SLI ready so it can be augmented at a later date with an additional card for an inexpensive SLI setup.

It is definitely not the fastest card, but it does the job quite well.

That asus card is the best option, or you can go for a ATI card wich is a little more cheap but I don't recomend it.

Neudar, will that card of yours run tf2 at 1280 by 1024 smoothly?? My pc runs tf2 great... but my x1550 ati chokes at that rez... so I play at 800 by 600. I wanna bump it up. (My lcd's only go up to 1280 by 1024 so that's my limit I guess).

I recently purchased an eVGA 8600 GTS 256mb card for 100$ (half price). I have no idea why it was so cheap, because there was an 8600 GT at the same store for 200$.

if you can invest more into the card. I'd recommend buying a 256-bit card instead of the 128-bit cards which the 8600's are. Because games that are graphically intense won't be able to run on the 8600's. If you want to just play TF2, the 8600's are fine but I'd actually recommend the 7900 or the x1900 over the 8600 and I think they are cheaper as well.

I have the 8600GT that Neudar runs, and I run TF2 in 1680x1050 with very few issues. My graphics, except anti-aliasing, are basically maxed out. I'm thinking about getting a second one to run SLI just for the extra FPS in some areas, and the ability to antialias.

My 8600 is 256 bit, and only cost 100$. I can run Bioshock on everything high with good frames, and also Crysis on medium with a bit of lag.The 7900 costs 179$, and is nowhere near as good as mine.

I run at 1680X1050 with graphics maxed out and hit 40-60 fps.

I currently have an intel 6750 conroe processor. Before that I had a 641 3.2 Ghz single core processor. I would get 30-60fps with that processor, but would dip down to 16fps in heavy combat (very frustrating) regardless of what the video settings were configured at.

With COD 4 I get a smooth 70-90 fps, but I do not have everything maxed (dont really care to either).

I have an Nvidia 680i motherboard and plan on purchasing a second 8600 to run in SLI mode for a cheap SLI solution. By the time games catch up to that level of graphis performance capability newer cards will be out and the $125 card will be a nice upgrade. I typically to do not spend more then $130 on a graphics card.

can i know which model and brand your 8600 is. Because I haven't seen a 256-bit one yet. http://www.nvidia.com/page/geforce8.html on nvidia's website, it also states that they are 128-bit.

yup according to evga website that video card has 128-bit memory. Btw, I think you are confusing 256MB of ram with the the 128 bit memory.
