I've been thinking about writing a tf2 guide

I've noticed that the majority of tf2 players play this game like it's solo fortress 2. I've had a lot of experience playing every class so I thought it would probably be a good idea if wrote a guide to help promote teamwork and strategies for each class. I'll probably post it on game faqs.

What do you guys think? Also I might need some help writing it.(my writing sucks I need someone to help me proofread it.)

yeah thats a good idea, like write some good stratiges for 2fort or somthing + what class is good with this map

Yeh pyrotechy, Let me know, I would be more than happy to do a whole bio of pro's and con's on the heavy.

Guides are always a good idea. Before I really started playing I read about 6 or 7 guides. Some were really useful... Others didn't really have much more than a brief explanation of each class. I think a good guide concentrates on the part each class should/could play in the team and then descriptions of tactics and tips for the class.

Guides to the maps are good as well, identifying important parts of the map and the areas to watch out for.

I like to Spectate a while to see where the action is concentrated. Spectating is a really good way of looking at what your letting yourself in for!

Gummy, when you write your guide, post it in the Writers forum, and then you'll be able to get some editorial help and get it posted to the front page of the site.

Hey I wrote down a lot of things on the spy. If you want to see what I wrote, here is the link: [link=hyperlink url]http://www.edgegamers.org/e107_plugins/forum/forum_viewtopic.php?28809.10[/link]
At least we have one thing!

I know exactly what you mean! Please write a guide, I'm tired of people thinking it's a sologame...

Pyrotechnician's TF2 guide

1. The Medic:
Beginner's guide:

The medic is the most newbie friendly class in the game. You don't need to have good aim, know the maps well or even understand that game mechanics that well to be an effective medic. Some people might tell you that the pyro and soldier are newbie friendly since they can get tons of kills(at least in the soldier's case) with minimal skills required. But playing as a medic will almost always help your team more unless ur team already has too many medics.

When I first started playing tf2 all I played was medic because all you have to do is heal whoever's low on life and follow your team around and you will know the maps like the back of your hand in no time. Make sure you constantly scan all your teammates to see if they are low on life. And when no one needs healing badly try to stick with the best offensive player on ur team. Don't just permanently attach yourself to some newbie heavy that can't get a single kill even with an uber. Press tab and look at the score board, find the best solider, demo, heavy on your team and stay with him if he doesn't already have a medic. If he does find the next best player on your team and heal him. You are not only helping your team the most by staying with the best guy on your team, Watching good players play is also the best way for you to learn how to play other classes and learn the maps.

Tips for more experienced medics:

Ubers: When you uber someone who's trying to take out a sentry make sure you run in before him and block the sentrie so he doesn't get knocked back as much. You also serve as a shield for the rest of your team. Also when you uber charge is at 80% or higher you have to be extra careful not to get killed. If the guy your healing is trying to charge into group of enemies don't follow him. It's not a big deal if he dies but you don't wanna die with 95% uber charge with him. Also dont' hesitate to use that uber when you or your teammates are about to die. There's nothing in this game that pisses me off more than a medic who keeps dying or letting their teamamtes die with 100% uber.

Spy checking: Don't expect your teammates to watch your back because that's your job and u should be watching theirs. Always stay on the move and strafe non stop to avoid backstabs and headshots. And you should face the other way while your teammates fighting to look for spies and flanking pyros.

Syringe gun: If you are getting chased down by a pyro with no competent teammates around to save you then it's time to pull out ur needle gun. The medic is the second fastest class in the game and you can regenerate your health so you will actually stand a good chance against a pyro 1on1 if he doesn't catch you off guard. The best thing to do is run backward while spamming needles at him. Try and and anticipate his movement and estimate his distance and speed and aim your needle gun at the right angle. If he chases after you in a straightline he will die unless you have bad aim and if he doesnt' you will get away. However if a smart pyro will set you on fire and try to finish you off with his shotgun if he sees you spamming your needle gun. The needle gun is also good for chasing down spies and killing unsuspecting enemies. And if you are really good you can use the arcing shots of the needle gun to your advantage and hit enemies that are behind covers. However if you have teammates around you it's better heal them and let them do the work.

Bonesaw: The medic is actually a surprisingly good melee class. They have the second fastest speed, decent health, health regen and the bonesaw is a good melee weapon. Spies should be the primary victim of your bonesaw. However, there are times where you might get stuck behind enemy lines by yourself. You don't have to roll over and die when that happens, just pull out your bonesaw and play like a spy. If you manage to get behind a group of people you can sometimes take out 3-4 people in a row with some crits before you die. If you are cornered try to circle strafe them and flank them with your bonesaw.

i would like to make som additions to your medic guide as i play medic quite oftem almost exclusively and have many good points i think i can help add on

For starters yes i think medic is best to start each new map with as while your healing ubering and running around you will get a good feel for the map while not being a waste to the team..

Also as far as spy checking... i usually tap heal people in the crowd quite quickly to keep everyone fresh and more alive... now the disadvantage to healing like this is 1 good spy can get in that crowd and i wouldnt be the wiser..

now as a medic you will find that you can keep quite a distance on whoever you are healing and i highly sugjest you use this to your advantage..

now a spy will probably get past your primary attacker un noticed or noticed by few i feel my responcability/ability as a medic for spy checking is critical and saves tides in a match if you keep a good eye out for slow scouts those invisibil people running around and what not..

no i feel im pretty good about spotting them and i do 2 things to take advantage of this

most of you remember the quick shottie xcript well badically i did it for melee weap for my medic and put that as a close easy to hit button, also the voicemenu x x to call for spy i think its 32 or something w/e if you need it ill get it for you

now with those 2 bound close i have 2 options assuming i am about 4 peoples length away from my target unless we are near corners or i am running around to distract and disorientate people and lets say i see a spy

now if i see i can cut him off faily easy and nail in a quick swipe i go to hit him and take out the threat quick and if i cant hit him before he can hit me or someone else i hit the spy alert try and get on mic n warn people and switch to bonesaw or healing gun slot 2 or 3 as a spy will always have the default weapon on his skin and if he hasnt been near a disp or i didnt heal him he will have half heath and naturally block peoples path's

so now people know im not the spy as i dont have my syrenge gun out, unless im trying to nail the spy to the wall which then its obvious im still not the spy...

also if you see a medic chasing someone blowing out all his needles you should suspect the person hes shooting at is a spy

if your being healed or ubered by a medic and notice his name pop off of you it would be a good idea to make a quick check unless you know hes just topping people off..

now briefly about the medic in general

speed #2 only to the scout you can out run just about anyone if theres a gap you will only make it biggger use this to your advantage with your weapons

syrenge gun - backpeddling and hidden spots will have you take advantage of this weapon get used to shooting at a distance different angles remember to shoot ahead of your victim as the needles have a distinct flight pattern and fall time, this can also be very usefull on sentries if you cant kill the sentry like this you can at least keep the engineer near it while other forces take another path..

Bonesaw - what a beautiful weapon one of the top 2 melee weapons only truely beat by a backstab not the knife itself.. again use your quickness jump strafe use very eratic movement get in close and tap attack right before you bump them you will get in get a quick swipe and get out..

healing gun should have a alt fire or something where you can bash people away high knockback and low damage just like a push off type move but oh well use what you have

the stratagie for your medic is way to specific to the situation to really elaborate much more on what you said but here are some personal tips that at least i find usefull

Setup round, heal on a scout or sniper as they have the lowest base health they reach 150% fastest and i swear they help the uber bar build a hair faster than the rest, if you dont reach 100% when gates open dont stay healing that same person buff everyone to thier 150% over n over till you hit 100% as that will help it build faster than holding on 1 person

also know what you need to get the job done watch how they get sentries down in different spots and you will know what class is best for it, solders a good for long distance or high up, demo with a good aim works 2

up close demo can do it but heavy can do better , dont forget your pyro he can mow through em if he gets close fast

also run gung hoe infront of your uberd friend as you will take hits and cause massive panic when they see your shiny metalic cover.

when u notice you have 1 or 2 seconds left start running back out and notify your target however u can that time is up so that he knows your leaving him..

also if you can coordinate 2 or 3 people to run in and kinda do like a football line up them 2 or 3 stand side by side fairly even with eachother and decently spaced run in with them 3 and hit your uber then just tap tap tap between 2 or 3 and boom you took your 1 uber and turned it into a wall of death it takes 1 or 2 runs to get the timing right on the uber but if you can tap all 3 within 2 seconds you should have no issue as i belive they have 1.5 sec till it flashes in which they can be killed between flashes

you will be better off getting back to your main line to hold the def/ offence

dont be afraid to chase after a person who is a good uber partner, your not here to help the players on the team but to help the team itself, a person good with uber will acomplish more for the team that someone who just goes in and tries to get as many kills as he can altho these 2 arent far from being intertwined usually sentries are top priority..

also if you dont have time to get out when uber wears off try and sneak in a corner where you could at least take 1 or 2 with you on an attempt to get out or coordinate for someone to distract them so u can get out, the longer you stay alive the more of your team that you can keep alive

solo combat

syrenge gun best for most of your confrentations its quick and if you start crit you will get a chain that can either make them back off so u can get out or if you have good aim will mow them down like candy..

now once they get close whip out that bonesaw and lay them to waste.

maps like convoy with narrow passages and hallways a medic can make a good combat class in general run them down with syrenges get close and boom..

typically your going to want to be healing your team mates but when u uber remember people panic when they see you coming ro run in there like a crazy person and hope they all back off so when ur heavy shows up they are all in a corner for him but never underestimate your power dont stand down cause your a medic but stand up.. medic and genineer are definatly the glue of the team you need at least 1 of each in any game with over 4 people on either team as that can turn the tides drastically

also if you notice you have weaker people on your team, those that mean well but just need to work on that aim i find if you run out healing them with a better player behind you get your nub out there so they run up for an expected ez kill then have your hard hitter join in and start slap healing them both it will turn your more nub into a novice as you got to learn to play to your strengths, if you know your playing needs improvement ask you team for tips, obviously you want to play a class your good at but then again you need to have 2 or 3 your good at

try and have a speedier class your good at at then one of the mid range at least something like a scout med or pyro and then a demo sold or heavy as primary and secondary

you can also play this to what you need my best 2 are medic and scout cause im quick and good at getting in and out but im definatly a support player/ team player why i like medic so much

hope this is a good addition to your guide notes

Sorry for the ridicusly long post

Again, I think that these would be great things to post in the Writer's forum. Once you get a single class guide complete, post it there, and it'll be handed to an editor who will guide it through the publication process on the front page of the site!
