First Desktop Build

So, with my pre-order of the Oculus Rift DK2, I'm looking to build myself a desktop PC, to replace my Lenovo Y500 in-use atm. This'll be my first build, which I look to refit properly next year if needed (in preparation for the consumer Rift).

I'm hoping to get a decent build for a budget of $1,500-$1,600, and looking to get parts and actually put it together near October / November of this year. I will probably buy a low tier keyboard to start until my 2015 refit, and I already have a mouse (a Logitech G700s).

If anyone has any recommended build ideas, parts or such... I'd appreciate it greatly! :thumbup:

Well the first question should be: what parts do you current have (if any)? Also do you have a preference between Win 7 or 8? When are you looking to start building this system? Are you looking to overclock your system?

This is a good stepping stone to help get you the best possible specs based on your request.

He's looking to build in October/November this year.

Personally, I say there's no point in asking or advising if you're going to do the build that late. Wait till December if you're going to be definitely waiting till November as you can get Black Friday/Cyber Monday discounts. Recon, repost this question back around November as the prices will not be moving around (and new products being released may help lower costs of other, older parts).

No desktop parts. And either system would work, I've grown used to Windows 8 on my Y500; I'd presume 7 would be the cheaper route, however.

Right-right! I completely forgot about Black Friday... that makes more sense, actually.

Yeah, hit up the black friday sales, I got my 2500$ computer for about 1700. That's a huge savings and it was totally worth it!

Just a heads up but I just built my computer a month ago and Win7 is still going for a $100. Seeing how Windows 8/.1 is getting shafted in sales I expect that to hold steady till the next windows.
