Hey guys I had a question about playing demos. I go to the Banned threads and download yall's demos on these cheaters, so I can know what to look for, but I can never get the demo to play. I save the file to my desktop, then I open TF2, then in console I type playdemo (demo file name) and it says "CDemoFile::Open: couldn't open file tf2aim02.dem for reading." Any thoughts? Thanks!

You have to place the demo in:

C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\USERNAME\team fortress 2\tf

Or wherever you have tf installed.

Once the demo is in the tf folder, play it the way you described, or to make it easier, just type in demoui2 in the console, which will open a little ui that makes it easier to find and play demos. Don't be surprised when it takes a long time to load, as it can be a bit slow.

Thanks for your help Troth. Now I have a new error.

No pure server whitelist. sv_pure = 0
Missing RecvProp for DT_TFPlayerResource - DT_TFPlayerResource/m_iCaptures
Host_EndGame: CL_ParseClassInfo_EndClasses: CreateDecoders failed.

I don't know why you're having errors nemo but I found Troth's answer very helpful. Thank you for asking the question and Troth for answering.

Hmm, I think, but I'm not positive, that this is because of the 2/14 update. Once they do an update that requires a server update, I believe any existing demos will no longer work. To test this, I would record a demo of your game, then try to watch that.

Yeah that works I was having issues just loading up servers until the new updates completely kicked in...because I'm pretty sure there was a platform update and if that's the case then the old stuff won't work anymore like troth said

ok i'll try that. thanks yall. you'd think the demos would work no mater what... :-/
