When we refer to the “Chain of Command” within eGO, we need to briefly define what this means. While technically the structure is e> eG> eGO> Advisor> Division Leader> Community Manager> Board of Directors, this does not mean that one is considered “above” or better than the other, particularly when it comes to leadership.
Just like our e's are valued as much as G's and O's, leadership of each division is a team. While the higher ranks come with added responsibilities and extra permissions, all leadership still work together for the same common goal. As former Community Manager C-WHiT puts it, “The advisors are just as important as me or my DLs.”
I spoke with C-WHiT a little more in depth about this topic and how he sees the leadership rank structure in general. While there is a Chain of Command, this does not mean that members should feel afraid to approach any member of leadership if they have questions or concerns. Ultimately, rank is just a tag and the leadership team must work together as they are equally responsible for the success or failure of a division, and of eGO as a whole. This is why it is so important that members communicate with leadership and that leadership (of any rank) always maintains an open ear.
C-WHiT explains, “We must capitalize on our members’ ideas and rectify the areas of concern. Our members are the eyes and ears of eGO. They see and witness things in far greater numbers than just leadership members. We need them, and as such, we need to listen to them.”
The DropBox is one way eGO provides a direct line of communication with leadership. Members can also look for leadership members in TeamSpeak. All leadership members will have a tag before their name so they are easily identified in the channels. All members are encouraged to join games with their leadership, chat with them in TS and of course, speak up about any issues or concerns.
C-WHiT adds, “We are all responsible for any concerns, issues, suggestions, and criticisms that may come. So if a member or public player has an issue, he or she may contact any one of us and we will handle the situation.”
The ranking structure within eGO is meant more as a guideline for responsibility delegation than a ladder for members to climb when they need assistance. Just as certain leadership members are assigned to specialty areas (recruiting, event coordinating, etc.), ANY leadership member is still capable of assisting you when needed. If they don't have all the answers, they will know how to find them.
As this interview with C-WHiT shows, even the highest levels of leadership want to hear from members. They do their best to be available to members so don’t be afraid to speak out. If you’re more comfortable doing so, you can always PM your leadership members or any Community Managers with ideas, questions and concerns.
