Best way to install your New Video Drivers!

Theres a few people with some graphics issues.

This would be one of the best ways to install new Video Drivers.

1. Download new drivers from manufacturer or Tweakforce.com.
2. Get Driver Sweeper to clean old drivers ( http://downloads.guru3d.com/download.php?det=1655 )
3. Uninstall old video driver from Control Panel>Display>Settings>Adapter>Properties>Driver> Uninstall
4. Reboot into Safe mode
5. Run Driver Sweeper and click whatever you have, and had before. (If you had ATI and went to Nvidia, check both)
6. Restart, yes your display will look like crap.
7. Cancel the Automatic pop up window that asks for display driver.
8. Install display driver from its own install program.

This should clean out any old crap and random files.

This has sold a couple of my driver issues with my 8800gt....then I went to 8800gt SLI, and changed drivers a few times.
 
as for steps 9 and 10, your card should stay in the computer, since he only has one... old or new card, im assuming its the new one in there, and the driver sweep should clear remnances of any old crud.

But for Vote for Pedro, if you follow it, just uninstall the drivers, do the reboot into safe, and use the driver clean software to get the junk out.

This might be able to help you with your problems, but can't really hurt ya.
 
Typically, you won't have any problem (as long as hardware hasn't changed, etc) installing new drivers over the old ones, since they do have some cleanup built in. However, if you are having issues (artifacts, freezes, etc), then wiping them out is a good idea. I might even suggest doing all of this in safe mode, as you'll be using a standard VGA driver while doing all of this, so it's less like replacing a car's motor while driving down the freeway.

Hahahaha....

I work on cars alot too...and thats one of the best mental images in a while..

I wonder if my creeper can go that fast under a car.

When I used to work for Gateway, that was an example that we'd give to customers so they could understand why we were sometimes being overly meticulous about the steps we were taking. It always seemed to get the point across.
