Ive just noticed that something is really taking hold of most of my 8gb of memory. I had my Google browser up & thought that was taking it up, so I closed it. Mind you that I had around half a gb free before it shut down. After it was shut down, another half was freed up. Now I am starting an antivirus scan as well as a spyware scan. Nothing should be taking up over 4gb of memory. All I really have running is Audacity & that should be taking at least half a gig in itself. Should I try restarting my computer to see if the memory becomes free? Is it temp memory being held by something by chance?

same has happend to me many times, what i did was defrag my pc and run countless anti virus stuff. after that it worked. i could run chrome fine along with my games.

You can just find out what's using all your memory with an analyzer. It'll tell you what specific process is dealing with a heavy payload.

Don't download anything.

Open task manager.
Select processes.
Select "Show processes from all users"
Sort by "Memory"

If it's "svchost.exe" , right click and select "go to service or ":go to details" depending on win7/win8.

If it's svchost, there may be a memory leak if you're on win7.

Let me know if that's the case, and we can go from there. There's a microsoft hotfix, we ran into this at our company not a week ago on multiple machines.
