Microphone Annoyance

Anyone who has spoken to me on vent or in-game knows how quiet my microphone is. I've tried two completely different microphones and currently have every setting I can find set to the maximum. The only way to increase it at this point is Mic Boost which works wonderfully except for the fact that anything my microphone now picks up is instantly played through my speakers at a higher pitch. So, given the fact I'd rather not hear myself as a chipmunk I need another idea to get this working. That or I can just accept the idea that my computer is 6 years old and finally put it out of its misery..

I'm not sure this is related but any time I plug my mic in my speakers pop rather loudly so my computerly incompetent self is wondering if there is a feedback error somewhere that's causing my mic to run through my speakers rather than pick up all the sound.

It could be that you have the volume up too loud. Here's a few things to try.

In the "recording" mixer, make sure that "enable mic boost" is selected, as that'll boost your mic gain by +20 decibels, making a big difference.

In the "playback" mixer, make sure that the mic is muted, since you don't want it to be a playback device.

Try using sndrec32 to test the quality of the mic without going through vent or any other program

hold the mic next to the speakers and see if you get feedback. that'll tell you lots.

try a different set of speakers and see if those behave differently or give you feedback.

Thanks Flippy, I think that did it. I'll have to test it in-game sometime just to maker sure but it no longer has the massive feedback with the increased sound that it had when I tested it on vent.
