So, edges of the chip are bent outward? That makes absolutely zero sense. If anything, the chips would be bent inward on the corners if there actually was an issue. Bending the edges outward would be too much force being applied ontop of the processors itself when installing it or when the rig is on an open test bench or on a lay-flat design case rather than a vertical standing case.
Then the coolers they claim are "heavy" are liquid coolers which are much lighter at the chip compared to a heatsink+fan design? This article is a joke. It does not make any sense what so ever.
To me, it looks like someone is trying to make a big uproar after they applied too much pressure when seating their cooler to the skylake based processor and torqued down the screws with as much pressure as they could without stripping the threads or the head of the screw.
I dont see how bending the corners outward like that on a normal PC setup in an average case like everyone else has and using either a heavy heatsink or liquid cooled combination. Especially then the heatsink is mounted around the processor on the PCB and not directly onto the processor socket.
Everyone understands that shipping a fully built PC anywhere is a potential risk for damage, regardless of how well you packaged it or not. After doing shipping/recieving for a year, you notice how little the companies like FedEx or UPS and USPS care about your packages when in transit. They are quite rough with your packages and shipping fragile materials always posed a risk. Nothing new here and the story that "Coolers are bending skylake processors" is a highly misleading title. It should be "Coolers are bending skylake chips while in transit with heavy coolers."
