I've seen a number of threads that invariably include the phrase "how do I turn this TGA files into something I can post?"

Here's something I used to use alot when I didn't have Photoshop, Gimp, or another easy application handy.

It's quick and easy, although you can still probably get better results with a client application like [link=http://www.irfanview.com/]Irfanview[/link].

Also, for new screenshots, you can always bind the f5 key to 'jpeg' and it'll take shots in jpeg format.

I actually did bind F5 to jpeg, and have had much success. I know the native format is TGA because it doesn't require much work for the game to take them, but I haven't noticed any slowdown or performance reduction, even when taking multiple shots, with it bound to jpeg. Works great.

What's the command for that? In other words, what should it look like?

I use XNView. It has support for a pretty large number of various formats and it's free.

the quotations always mess me up, but I believe it's like this:

bind "f5" jpeg

if my quotation marks are off, can someone correct for me?

That's just fine.

The quotes are generally only used when you have to have more than one command, say... Something like bind f5 "jpeg; +jump" for whatever reason. :P

I actually googled for a converter program and came across a good little utility that does nothing but convert from .tga to .jpg. It will convert everything in the directory that it's currently located and has options to delete the original .tga's and adjust brightness on the fly. It's very, very easy to use.

The name of the utility appears to be "Convert shots" so googling for that might not help anybody, but I do remember finding it linked on a Star Wars (Knights of the Old Republic?) forum.
