Id like to be serious for a minute.

Its been a while now that i have been on edgegamers as a full member and here is something i'd like to say to all of you.

Sometimes you may have person on your contact list who, for some reason is unhappy, frustrated and they need to vent, let some negativity out etc...

In that situation , there is two things you can do about it:

1) Let them settle their problem on their own.

2) Help them out.

I normally choose option two. But there is nothing wrong about chosing option 1. And sometimes, it is a better way to deal with it.

Sometimes people mix their virtual life and their real life together, they have their reasons, maybe they are lonely people... in any case, it is a fact that it happens alot.

I have played with many of you, i don't know your names most of you and you dont know mine, this is fin since we are in a gaming community. It doesnt have to be more serious than that. We know each others in-game, which is a heck of a different way than real life. We are quick to make friends in-game sometimes ( there is nothing wrong with that) but always keep in mind that the relationship you make in-game is , as it says, a gaming based friendship.

There is some people out there who have no life apart from internet life. For numerous reasons, and i'm not there to argue their reasons, sometimes they mix their virtual life and real life together, merge them into one. From personal experience it makes it very difficult to distinguish what is real and what is not.

You may know someone who's had a bad day and they are talking of quiting the clan, or quit playing for good... and if it starts making you down to see your friends in pain then you know that maybe you're getting sucked in both realities, which you gotta be carefull about.

Personally, i get involved alot when i come across somebody in pain, and i always try to help them in any way i can... sometimes too much for my own good, but i need to help, it is in my nature.

Lately, i had a person on my list ( not using the word friend) who got into a serious argument because he believed he had been robbed of his rights. That same person has created so much about a minor incident that he had to be discarded for his own good. Sadly, that person completely lost his/her reason, well mixed within both his/her real life and virtual life and now cannot make any rational judgement call for all he/she's worth. And that same person now is trying to convince other people that they need to join him/her in some holy crusade.

The point i'm trying to make here is: our virtual life is not reality. Reality is when you wake up in the morning and you look under the bed before getting up to see if that left-over 18 inches pizza you had delivered last night is still unspoiled by cats.

So, if people start creating a bit too much for their own good and you dont know what to do or what to say... give them the link of this thread.

Play safely, keep your eyes opened, keep your minds opened, be good people as much as you can be but, more important, always, ALWAYS respect your mates by telling them the truth and how you feel. They might not always like to hear it, but at the end, they will come to their senses. And if they just dont want to understand, take action and get rid of them. They will never be your friends if they don't care to listen about how you feel or what you say. Never stay with somebody who thinks for you, it is very dangerous.

Thank you for your time, have fun kids.

Excellent post, Captain. It brings up a related topic that should be addressed. eGO is not a Democracy. "Blasphemy!" many will cry. "What kind of tyrannical dictator would say such a thing?"

Government is simply the wrong analogy. eGO isn't a government, it's a business. With a government, you have no choice but to be under their rule, therefore, you should have a say and a vote. We recognize that a government which does not provide these things is a bad government.

How about your workplace? For any private business, you may get a say, but you don't get to vote about who your boss, or your boss's boss might be. Your input is considered, then a decision is made that is in the best interests of the continued success of the business.

Our business in eGO is having fun, but it's a business, not a government. Your input is going to be fairly considered, but ultimately the decisions made for the best interest of the group are going to be made at the Council level.

A private association is a voluntary one. That is, you sign up of your own free will and may leave if you choose. Such a group can't impose criminal penalties on its members (and frankly wouldn't want to) like a government can, but can impose penalties for bad behavior, including ejection from the group.

We appreciate all of our members, and want you to feel welcomed, happy and comfortable here. Never think we'll ignore your valued input. Just remember, this is a business group, not a government, and many problems can be easily avoided.

Yeah and half my post is missing since i did not copy and pasted it right :(.

i tried to mend it a bit though.

And to add to monkeybits's post:

There might be a time when you feel like you've been treated unfairly, the biggest mistake you will make is to start creating s**t about how the powers that be have robbed you of your rights.

If you do something silly at school, at work, be sure you will be told about it. Argue with your principal, boss and for sure they will take action. it is not different here. If you do get in trouble ask yourself this:

Do i want to play with my friends like before i was told off? If the answer is yes, then just make sure you follow procedure and behave about it. Life is not easy and like Monkeybits said, EGO is a business and all members have agreed to the rules, even though you dont know them all by heart it was the deal when you signed up.

You came here to play in a friendly environement, punk free... don't act like one please.

Well said Cap. After being a member and even GM of multiple guilds over the last 10 years, I've learned that sometimes the best thing you can ever do is just sit back, take a deep breath, and wash your hands of a situation.

I'm an emotionally generous person, and I like to do what I can to help people. I've also experienced the hard way that you can't help someone help themself if they don't think they need it. In the end you just end up fueling their bad behavior and emotionally draining yourself.

Hang in there bud.

Lock.

Nicely said, mano. How I feel, it's video games. Ain't nothin' in video games gonna get me upset in actual real life.

nicely put :) i respected everyone even if they're are a rank lower than me... its the attitude not the rank :)
well said Captain

To be a member of Edgegamers Organization does not cost anything, your admin is free and we never take donating into account when it comes to promotions. Once you recieve a promotion, you accept the power of admin of your own free will. We do not make you pay for your admin like most other clans do, with them as long as the money keeps rolling in they could care less about you or the horse you rode in on.

We are different because with our admin's accepting FREE admin power without asking for anything in return enables us (council) to hire/fire admins as we see fit. This is the reason why we have become so successful and also have the finest admins in the gaming world. This is the reason why our servers are so much fun, our outstanding admins help us to keep the trash and punks out. You are taught personal responsibility, self control and many other "real world" skills while being held to a higher standard than most other public players. You are also held responsible for your actions, how could we do that if you were paying us for your admin powers?

We all make many friends here in the gaming world, but just as Mental said they are "gaming friends". Most of us dont know each others real name or what we do for a living. Sometimes people are not what they seem and can lead you down the wrong roads. Always be wary of someone wanting you to join them on some kind of crusade or quest to right a wrong. They just might get you and themselves a one way ticket out of here without the benefit of forgiveness in the future.

We dont like to rule with an iron hand, but if push comes to shove we can and will. No single individual is more valuable than the clan as a whole.....no one. We have fired council members just like we have fired advisors/eGO's/eG's and lots and lots of e's. This organization has prospered under our leadership and this isnt our first rodeo either, we try and do whats best for the entire clan and sometimes that means letting people go who just wont listen to reason.

The main reason we exist as a clan is to provide a fun place to play without punks and morons ruining the experience. If it stops being fun then what is the point? This organization is much larger than the sum of its parts, its an idea of a shining city on a hill. A city that once you get past the gates and walk around a little, you start having so much fun that you dont want to leave :)

Yeah, I'd like you for being there for me. You always help me, along with buga. Thanks Captain for helping me =]

Real life friendships CAN develop from a gaming friendship. I, myself, feel I am exactly the same person online as I am in real life. I'm also extremely open and I will discuss anything with others.

Thus far, I've met probably ~15 players that I met through online gaming. All of the friendships developed from 6+ years of Warcraft 3 in a DOTA community. It's not quite as weird as you think, hehe. My college roommate freshman year actually ended up being a Warcraft 3 buddy. We both found out that we were going to the same college, so we were just like.. well, we might as well room together!

Nowadays, I rarely play video games and he doesn't play at all, but we are great friends.
