I've been using Discord for over 7 months now, so I'll just leave my opinion of it from that time.
It has been very nice to me during my use. The configuration can be a bit of a challenge if you don't go poking around, but once its set up, almost no maintenance is needed.
I've found it to be much
much better than TeamSpeak
- The Open nature of Discord allows for bot integration
- The price (Free)
- More centralized chat feature
- Native In-Game overlay
- Browser based (even the client is browser based, it just runs in an electron wrapper)
- Modern UI
- Easier Direct messaging
- Easy invites
I'd also like to correct a few points
Discord is not a good idea for administration and lacks an API that we could use to grow EdgeGamers to its full potential. Discord's banning system bans off names and not IPs meaning all it takes is literally opening up a new tab to bypass your ban.
While the OFFICIAL API for discord is an absolute mess, they have endorsed or at least pointed devs to unofficial APIs that are more than capable of running administrative duties.

It is also stated at the bottom of the bans page for server management
Meaning, The user is banned by their account. So even if their IP changes, they can't use that account. Also, by IP meaning even if they do make a new account, they can't connect from the same IP.
It should be said that TeamSpeak has some features that discord does not have (yet. The devs are always looking for features to add. Send them a tweet or on their forums)
- Sub-Channels (Though you can mimic this with text characters)
- Room Lock (lock a user into a channel)
- Sub-permission groups (Although they are working on it)
- Limited 'guilds' (servers) Only 100 per user
- A bunch of other features that I can't actually remember but probably use subconsciously
I must mention that recently, Discord had some issues with cloudflare, which caused voice issues and problems logging in.
Also, Discord is free partly because they can use any and all voice data and chat messages sent using their service. So in no way is it secure on the inside. I do not know how secure it is from an outside view (how easy a user not invited to a server is able to view data from that server)
However, if I'm going to be sending sensitive information, I'll use private email or call the person.
That being said, I would not recommend Discord for EGO because of how TeamSpeak is already so integrated into the clan.
