Caught wind today that the metro server might be going away. Not sure if this is true or not but it was said that it was on the forums somewhere. Would of thought it would be posted here in the bf section considering it is mostly related to this division. I know that it might not be populated during the day but when I get on every night at least 70% of the people in the hangout room on TS are playing the metro server. That is, 70% of the people who play from night to night as part of the EGO community are playing in the Metro server. It would be a shame to take down the server that is at heart of the division for mere statistics on the political side of things. You would literally change the landscape of the division with this move. I would move to have a legit discussion among the bf division before you remove this server.

I do agree with espionage. I love metro and 98% of the time I play Metro. I'm normally on at 4 pm Pacific to 11 pm. We were on TS last night when I heard of this. Searched High and Low for any info on Metro with no luck.

Metro has to stay. It is the server that got me to join. Im always on TS and always join Metro to seed the server. It will be a huge loss to the EGO BF4 division if metro goes away.

I also joined eGo through the metro server, and it's pretty much the only server I play on other than Pop maps, I really don't think it should go down like this, but it's not my decision to make.

I'm the same as pretty much everyone else above me and joined because of metro and its pretty much the only server I play on so if it did go away that would really suck.

Not trying to be a jerk but we do have other servers that need admin on them

That maybe true, but bottom line is people play on servers to have fun first and foremost not to babysit players. You really cant force anyone around to join a server just to admin.

I will post this as a former leadership member.

Things to consider.
  • Servers cost money.
  • Not all servers can be supported.
  • Which server will have to go.

Now just regular agent speaking: If metro is going away that means ego does not have enough money to support an server. If this is the case and you want metro to stay which server will you get rid of then? (And as far as I know The populated the servers the money we get? Correct me if I am wrong. Please let me be wrong.)

If many of you look back, we were informed of the current state of Metro 3 - 4 months ago, that if the server was not seeded or populated as much as possible, then it would come to the stage where Leadership would have to take the necessary actions best for the Battlefield Division and eGO.

Yes we all know seeding is a difficult issue and a lengthy process but without members giving just an hour or two of their time to help fill the server, then of course there are going to be issues with keeping the server alive.

Now that this post has made everyone aware we MAY lose the Metro server, maybe now is the time to start seeding.

On another note Wize and Beemer are right; PLAY first, ADMIN second. This has always been the case for us. Yes, sometimes we are called out to an issue to another server but there is nothing stopping you from coming back.

For us Level 140s, score and K/D usually isn't our focus. Our focus tends to be having both a fun and enjoyable experience across our servers for ourselves and our pubbers (public players). So keep seeding the way we have for the past 2 weeks, keep the server full for as long as possible and keep recruiting new members to eGO wherever and whenever you can.

Do the mini events of pistols/knives, or set attachments to weapons, etc... but remember it is suggestion. If a pubber comes in and says "No i dont want to", fine. Leave them be, always ask politely and professionally.

Keep these points in mind and it will be our best shot at keeping our Metro server :)

As I write this Metro is ranked 211 in the world. Our other servers are 5, 32 and 43. This is with two of the others getting DDos'ed on a semi regular basis. All the other servers are full and Metro is barely up, but oh wait all of you live on Metro, so that can't be right. As mentioned before, it takes money to keep servers running, and we have to justify the expense of keeping the servers up. When they have zero players in them half the time it is really hard to justify the expense. We have change the maps as you have requested. Changed the maps back as you requested. Raised the ticket count as you requested, lowered the ticket count as you requested. Each time members telling us that they would keep it full if only we would ... Well we listened, we even went against our own experience and gave you what you asked for to see if maybe it would work. Guess what? Server bill is still coming in for a server that is not being utilized at least half the time. If you can justify the expense please explain it to us, for our edification.

I understand that politics play a big role in this community as well as finances. But it has also come to my attention that particular individuals offered to pay the bill themselves and others outside of said individuals even offered to get a "collection pot" of sorts going around just for this server in particular.

My justification is simple: When I get home at night, the vast majority of the active players are online in large volumes. That is, everyone who joins teamspeak and makes a fare effort to be a part of the community as a team player on a weekly basis. Of course, everyone has nights and weeks when they can't play but these players are around a large percentage of the week. Many are eGO's some eG's and several are new up and coming e's. A very safe assumption is that 70% of the active players on TS during the weeknights (peek hours) are playing on the Metro server. That is, 70+ percent of your active community frequent the Metro server more than they do any other server listed above in your comments tipton. I understand that the majority of BF plays the other maps. I understand that for you to pitch to your potential donors of cash and gear that you have to be able to boast stats like 5, 32 and 43. But I also understand that you have to keep the community in tact. Not to say that doing away with the metro server would disband the community but it would change the landscape of the division in the sense that 5 out of 7 nights for the last 6 months that ive been apart of the community 70+ percent of your active BF division has played the metro server religiously. Its where we hang out and have a good time. Its a map that we find common ground on. Not to say we don't play on the others but this is by far the most played by active eGO members as a whole. (when I say active, I imply the greater portion of players who also make an effort to join teamspeak and be a vocal part of the community.) Despite what beemer may want to believe, we join eGO for fun first, as wize said. As we fit in, we feel more obliged to aid in the admin efforts. I don't think there's ever been an instance when anyone in TS wasn't willing to jump servers to help with issues but we never join in a server with the initial mindset of babysitting for the sake of the server. We play to enjoy ourselves. And like it or not, Metro is where, once again, the majority of your active players tend to enjoy themselves on a nightly basis. So what that its not full for 8 hrs out of the day. Its full when your members of your community get off work, prop their feet up and attempt to unwind with their pal's over a friendly game of bf. Set the politics aside and set the world statistics aside. Look at the statistics of the individuals in THIS community and then give an educated, justified reason for abandoning this server in particular. I dare say you can't find one.

It's not that it is not full for eight (8) hours a day, it is that it is empty as much or more than it has anyone in it. Donations to EGO go into a general fund, and pay the bills for the entire community. Giving money to keep a particular server up would need to be discussed with the Community Managers. This is not political, it is economics. We are paying for a server 24/7 and using it an average of eight (8) to ten (10)/7.

"Set the politics aside and set the world statistics aside. Look at the statistics of the individuals in THIS community and then give an educated, justified reason for abandoning this server in particular. I dare say you can't find one."

I believe that is an educated and justified reason without making up percentages of members although I'm not sure that I was able to put statistics aside and look and the statistics as you wanted.

The issue is not about the cost so much as server population. Most of our main servers run by pubs frequenting them and keeping them going. The issue with metro is that out of 24 hours it might be up 12 hours or less because other unforseen issues cause us to fill our other servers first. We have even tried other modes and even maps over the past few months to fill those gaps where players are not on to compliants about them and back to not filling. Members were more concerned about playing and filling other servers than our own. Upper management has said if the server does not grow or gain rank it will not survive or continue to be supported. Metro has been at that point for months now of not gaining rank and population so most likely will be terminated. Also we are currently looking to support bf1 with a few servers in the fall so will allow room for new servers

metro should stay ,i joined because of your metro server . it's a classic map that has a cult following . we would lose alot of pub players who potentially could be future members.

Looking at the graphs for the past week or so on GameME show a trend of the server emptying out around the 1:30-2:30am CT hour, a futile attempt to fill this up around 8:30 or so, then it starting up around the 2pm to 4pm CT hours. This is a prime time where the US is essentially going to work. Are there others that can perhaps pool themselves to fill this up? Hell, over the weekend, this was offset by an hour or so One doesn't have to specifically like playing on metro, only a round or two with a group of people can surprisingly get things going.

Is there any messages in the other servers, specifically Lockers and/or Shanghai that advertise that this server is available? Its possible that due to the locked down, unaltered list of favorites (much like alex2142hp mentioned a long long time ago) that people have, they might not know this exists. Last time I was on Metro and on lockers, I didn't see this message.

We could even experience a flux of new players at some point, with Battlefield 4 (and hardline) at the $5 pricing point, the excitement of BF1 reigniting a drive to play BF4 until it comes out, and the "in due time" free release of Second Assault.

Hi All,

Metro will stay for now, once BF1 comes out we will revisit Metros status.

Thank you
