Does the big crosshair obscure your field of vision at all? I would think that it would be hard to use a k98 at long range...

Meh, Imho, the big x doesn't hinder your vision that much. Lets not forget that it depends on the monitor too. On my 15", the x is much larger in comparison to my 19". Then again were talking about the difference of 1024x768 vs. 1600x1200
