Hi, I'm {e}Trevorfenlon007, I'm a member of this awesome eGO community as for a year now.

I found your server on GameTrackerwhile server hopping to find active communities and fell in love ever since.

I feel like since I have been In this community, and since you guys provide me with company, I feel like I should pitch in the community and since I know a thing or two about optimization, I want to help you make your gameplay be butter smooth and beautiful as the Mona Lisa, a masterpiece. In my guide, I will be taking you through general game tweaking, network modifications, system tweaks, and basic overclocking. Are you ready to get the EDGE in EDGE Gaming?...

Note: This is my first ever forum posting on any forum site by the way, let me know how I did!

WARNING: This guide will be LONG, Take a sip of tea and read through this guide CAREFULLY, but I promise you after you follow through my guide, your gaming experience, and general applications that you are going to be used with this guide will transform!

This is my specs I'm running with: https://pcpartpicker.com/user/Trevor007/saved/#view=ybfD3C
Im running my CPU at 4.4 ghz stable. With temps nearing 60F-75F. If you want more, PM ME.

----------------------------------------
SO LETS BEGIN!
----------------------------------------

1. Get Windows 10 Pro.

For 50$ extra from W10 Home, You get better Hardware support, better boot times, more optimization with game mode with the creators update, and if games support it, DX12 will make fps in gaming better. you can get W10 from KINGWIN , its $34 and the oem key has digital entitlement, meaning its tied to an account, no need to buy the licence again. You just need Windows10UpgradeAssistant, you just need to burn it to a usb or dvd with Rufus or Free ISO Burner.

2. Install Drivers and Uptate

I can't stress how important this is! AMD and Nvidia make drivers perform better with future renditions. Find a driver that doesn't have bugs and is most compatible with your video card.
For AMD Driver's, go HERE.
For Nvidia Driver's go HERE.

If a driver screws up for any particular reason, go install DDU, go into safe mode and select top option, after it does it's thing, your video drivers will be uninstalled, go ahead and install another driver that works!

Fact of the Day: DDU also helps you if you want to upgrade a video card, you do the exact same as before but you select the bottom of the three options. YOU ARE WELCOME!

3. Update your BIOS.

Updating bios is one of the tweaks that make the system run properly. Updating your bios stops bugs like (bsod's, glitche's, sluggishness in system). Look for your motherboard's model on google and look at the most up to date version, download the bios update, and with a zip extractor, drag the folder into a usb drive. Look in your motherboard manual and see how to update bios, all motherboards will have different ways to do this, so RTFM. DON'T power down the system OR unplug it, just let the bios do its thing, turn away and take a break and relax, it will restart. NOTE: if you overclock and you have settings left, it will reset your bios settings with the upgrade. AND FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, please don't install from 3rd party sites. Some bios from these sites may BRICK your MOBO!.

----------------------------------------
Now that your system is pretty much set, lets tweak it!
----------------------------------------

4. Registry tweaks!

Before I continue with this step, PLEASE MAKE a system restore point. If windows 10 updates, and some features change, it could not allow you to boot at all!

I before had listed things in painful lines that were ugly af.
now I have a file you can run to make sure things even better,

JUST DOWNLOAD THIS FILE AND RUN IT:

HERE

5. Power Options.

Run this file to add Ultimate performace plan to w10, it has different things that high performance plan does not have

RUN THIS FILE:

HERE

Go to Control Panel, Go to Power Options.
Change Plan to Ultimate Performance. This allows your CPU which ran at 5% to instead run at 100% of its POWAR, as well as other bs things.

6. Visual Effects and Page File.

VISUAL EFFECTS:
To find where Visual Effects is located, Go to Control Panel/System/Advanced System Settings/Visual Effects.
This is The settings you should enable and disable.
nGdmifF.png

These settings make windows snappy.

PAGE FILE:
To find where page file is located, Go to Control Panel/System/Advanced System Settings/Advanced/Virtual Memory.
nGdmifF.png

In this Menu, you want to:
Uncheck Auto Manage
If you have 16+ GB of ram, then set all drives to NO PAGE FILE. If not, then:
Set one drive to Custom size,
Initial size: 4096
Max size: 4096.
All drives should be set to none now.
If you want to see crash info and other recovery errors. set OS Drive as 300 Inital/Max Mb.
If game jitters, set page to another drive.

UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES DO NOT SET A PAGE FILE ON A SSD, it makes it die quicker.
This tweak frees space in your drive and makes your SSD/HDD's live longer!

7. HDD/SDD optimization.

Only Defrag HDD's, NEVER DEFRAG A SSD!
Defraging SSD's shortens the life of them, and they naturally defrag themself's, instead TRIM them!
Turn off indexing on ssd's!
Do defrag your hdd's every month, you can use my utility and make a batch script to do this. Right Click on desktop, make a text document, post all of my code into it, save a .bat script.

To do this:

WINDOWS Key+E
Right click on SSD.
Go to properties, uncheck “Allow files on this drive to have contents indexed in addition to file properties“

8. Disabling services.

Windows has services that you don't need to use. They run in the background and drain your CPU resources, making games slow, applications slow, and make Windows less snappy.

To do this:
WINDOWS KEY+R
Type Services.Msc
Look for Unnessary services you dont need.
Right click on them, click Startup Type.
Select Disable, apply it.

GDSG3gA.png

This is a list of services that use the most resources in Windows.
----------------------------------------
AllJoyn Router Service
Application Layer Gateway Service
Bluetooth Support Service
BranchCache
Certificate Propagation
Client for NFS
Distributed Link Tracking Client
dmwappushsvc
Downloaded Maps Manager
Enterprise App Management Service

Windows Mobile Hotspot Service
Windows MultiPoint Server Host Service
Windows MultiPoint Server Repair Service
Windows Remote Management (WS-Management)
Xbox Live Auth Manager
Xbox Live Game Save
XboxNetApiSvc
----------------------------------------

Keep in mind that all the services are conditional services, some applications might need these services, so if some application errors out, it should say which service is not running, then enable the service with the steps above.

----------------------------------------
Now that system tweaks have been done, lets focus on Network Tweaking!
----------------------------------------

9. Tweaking your Ethernet adapter.

It's mind blowing how much you can optimize your network settings in Windows, Windows makes it a **** to modify them, going though countless regedit edits. To make this easier, lets use a software called TCP Optimizer 4 This will make your ping to servers low, resulting in getting that shot into that player before he can shoot you back.

Download it.
Run TCP Optimizer as Admin.
Set Your Settings As Follows:
IF things are GREYED OUT, click custom on settings, its at the bottom of the application, above exit.
Ed7lSwf.png
CkagiEB.png

These settings are the most optimal for your adapter.

NOTE: MTU setting should be as follows:
Got to MTU tab/ go to google.com.
click LARGEST MTU, it will do a ping with several MTU's.
The application will tell you your optimal MTU.
Go to General Settings Tab and set that MTU, to the MTU settings.
Press Apply.

10. FREE YOURSELF FROM MICROSOFT PRIVACY!

I'm a member of Anonymous in OpNewBlood for five years now. I've done research for a year on Windows 7-10 and I analyzed what data gets leaked to Microsoft and your ISP, resulting in your data being seen by anyone! The results are shocking, your digital footprint is being seen by companies, and those companies can sell that data to further "de-anonify" yourself.
For a general guide on how to be as anonymous as possible, Go to this.

You could do the manual settings with Regedit to do this and edit hosts file, but w10privacy can help you with this, it also helps tweak other stuff as well.

NOTE: These settings are conditional, some will disable some applications, some will make cortana not work, some will make internet traffic clear. Fiddle with these settings at your own discretion.

11. Disable OneDrive if installed.

Disable it, it EATS UP your bandwidth like crazy! Only open it to upload and download, then quit it. Don't let it run in the background.

----------------------------------------
Now that Network Modifications are done, lets Take that EDGE I promised and take it to the next Edge, with OVERCLOCKING!
----------------------------------------

12. OH YEAH, LETS OVERCLOCK BABY!!!

DISCLAIMER: Overclock at your own risk, I am not responsible if you screw up your system due to you putting 5 volts on any part in your rig or other rig's and frying it. If you want to do it, then let's continue.

Overclocking is the crux to the whole system being faster, all of my tweaks above only address 50% of system speed modifications. This will solve the rest of your snappiness.

I know what people are going to say about overclocking,
overclocking will make your overclocked pc part live short, but in reality, your computers will live from 5 years to 10 years, before pc games and software become so resource hungry that you will want to upgrade your hardware to keep up!

-------------------------------
For CPU OVERCLOCKING
-------------------------------
To make this easier, so that people are not scared of overclocking, I have 2 guides for AMD and INTEL processors:
AMD
Nvidia

I tend to stay away from software overclocking, it tends to wig out and not put your CPU at where you want it to be, sometimes causes aritifacting. It fluctuates in CPU-z
I tend to do it the manual way with bios. RESEARCH your CPU, look at stable overclock's, make sure that pc temps are low as possible, tend to stick away from 80C+ if possible, I tend to stray away from air cooling and go towards an AIO cooling or a custom liquid cooling solution.

If you want to shop for a cooler for your cpu, then go to PcPartPicker, it lists Air and AIO solutions. If you want to see about doing custom liquid cooling, then go to FrozenCPU, it lists many things, but it specializes in custom liquid cooling.

NOTE: If your system does not post correctly due to an incorrect overclock, take a piece of metal, not aluminum, and turn off your computer, then turn off your power supply and wait for 10 seconds, then bridge the bios reset header, the location of the header is always different, tipically its near the battery on your mobo... once again, RTFM. Turn on the computer and wait 30 seconds with the bridge on that two pin header. then it will reset. if something goes wrong, see the error code on your mobo... its in your manual. it will reset to the default bios, see step 3 above for this step repeated.

After you do a OC, Let Prime95 run for 3 hours, You want NO FAULTS during any of the 3 hour duration! This will put your cpu at 100% load at all times, you want no applications running during this process!

-------------------------------
For GPU OVERCLOCKING
-------------------------------

This OC is safer and easier than CPU overclocking
Remember what I said about RESEARCHING your CPU? Do It for the GPU to see what settings are stable and achivable!
NOTE: Not all GPU's overclock the SAME! LETTING YOU KNOW THAT IN ADVANCED!
Unlike CPU overclocking, there's no way to do it manually, you have to use software for this!

For AMD/ATI Cards, use AMDtrixx or MSI AFTERBURNER.

For Nvidia Cards, usePrecisionXOC

TEST YOUR OVERCLOCK WITH FUR ENGINE or Uniengine's Valley test. During these tests, you want NO artifacting at all, keep an eye out for temps. Download a temp monitor that you know and trust and use that to watch the temps.

-------------------------------
MEMORY OVERCLOCKING
-------------------------------

First step is getting the best memory you can afford. KEEP AN EYE OUT FOR frequency and timings.
You want a timing like this "16-16-16-16-46" where its straight, You don't want wonky timings like this " 16-20-34-16-46." Reasoning behind this is so that memory modules can communicate better and communicate to the CPU, therefore making things snappy!

You typically want to do this at the same time as doing your CPU OC! I'll repeat one more time, don't use software, go for bios OC, ESPECIALLY with memory, its prone to BSOD or brick if you install the wrong software...

Research your ram module and see the stable and/or achievable OC on that ram module

TEST THE RAM OC, USE MemTest86, burn this to disc or usb with step1 software, boot into usb or disc, run the test, YOU WANT NO FAULTS!

-------------------------------
An INTRESTING ONE, OVERCLOCKING YOUR MONITOR
-------------------------------

Want 5-15 FPS increase out of the box? Then do this:

NOTE:If you have trouble applying this setting, if so, then download Custom Resolution Utility . To use it, simply click on CRU.Exe, click ok on prompt, then go click on detailed monitor resolution, there SHOULD be one resolution, unless you are doing eyefinity/surround, if so, turn it off, then do the setting for each monitor, it should show a window, leave everything intact and modify refresh rate. The refresh rates for all monitors will be as follows

On a 60 hz monitor, you can get away with 65-75hz, rarely at 80 hz.
On a 100 hz monitor, you can get away with 105-115hz, rarely 120 hz,
On a 144 hz monitor, you can get away with 149-155hz, rarely 160 hz,

After you set this setting, go press restart64.exe for 64 bit system, if 32, then restart.exe.
NOTE: your screen will go blank for couple of seconds, it will let you know that graphics driver booted sucessfully!

For NVIDIA USERS: THIS will explain how to do it.
For AMD USERS: Old version, for NEW version. Sorry for music playing in the background.

Restart Comp for settings to take place.

-------------------------------
Finally, we're done with overclocking, how about a minor tweak to ease your brains
-------------------------------

13. Disable Mouse Acceleration.
Naturally windows has mouse acceleration, you might be used to this, but if you want the absolute accuracy in all your games with 1-1 input, install The MarkC Mouse Fix.

Instructions are in the link Above.

14. System Boot time increase!

Disable any startup applications by going to task manager and going to start up tab.
Select a start up that you don't need starting up, click on it and disable it.

Press WINDOWS KEY+R
Type MSCONFIG
Go to Boot Tab and set settings as follows:
bkdMP2c.png

15. Last Step; Configure global settings in AMD/Nvidia control pannel/radeon Settings.

NOTE: This is conditional settings, settings may be too low for your card, RESEARCH THEM!

-------------------------------
For AMD:
-------------------------------
Go to AMD Radeon Settings, go to Gaming tab/ Global setting tab and apply this:

AA Mode: Use application settings (Enhance reduces fps a lot)
AA Samples: Use application settings
Filter: Edge-detect
AA Method: Adaptive multisampling (Supersampling reduces fps a lot- 2nd biggest fps hit)
Morphological Filtering: On
Anisotropic Filtering Mode: Use application settings
Anisotropic Filtering Level: Use application settings
Texture Filtering Quality: High quality
Surface Format Optimization: On
Wait for Vertical Refresh: Off, unless application specifies
OpenGL Triple Buffering: On
Tessellation Mode: AMD optimized
Maximum Tessellation Level: AMD optimized
Frame Pacing: On
-------------------------------
For Nvidia:
-------------------------------

Some awesome easy tips a lot of people do not know about. Great write up Trevor :thumbup1: Hope to see some more in the future!

This looks like an awesome guide! I'm thinking of doing a fresh Win10 install, and following this guide right afterwards would be a good idea. Why did you change the font in that post though? I hate it. >_<

you can get W10 from KINGWIN , its $34 and the oem key has digital entitlement, meaning its tied to an account, no need to buy the licence again.

Do not buy software product keys from re-sellers. You always run the risk of getting either an invalid key, a used key, or a deactivated key. This goes for game keys as well. Keys bought from G2A and kinguin are from key re-sellers. Often times these keys are obtained through fraud or other less-than-legal methods. Only ever buy keys from the official store of the company that owns the software/game or an authorized retailer / distributor. (You can usually find officially authorized retailers through the company website)

I'm saying this from personal experience, I bought a Windows 7 oem key off of kinguin a year or two ago and their support were not helpful what-so-ever when I showed them that it didn't work.

P.S. Just because you yourself (whoever is reading this) may not have had a bad experience, doesn't excuse the extremely shady business practices of key re-seller sites like G2A and Kinguin.

Also, buying windows keys from unofficial resellers often results in them giving you an MSDN key which will probably get flagged for piracy.

Holy Shit, My link comes first when you type Trevor's Tweaking Guide
