Seeding the Server?

This is not a complaint but rather an inquiry. Last night I was playing Allies (yes, shocking I know) and there were 3 players in spectate mode on a nearly full Avalanche server. I was playing for about 25 minutes and the allied team was constantly short between 2 to 4 players. The Axis was full nearly the whole time.

After such a long time with these players being in spectate mode, I typed (general chat) a request to admins the spectate players be kicked so actual players could join. My requests were not responded to and then later someone (admin) typed "teams are fine."

Then after 45 minutes I asked again and someone typed something similar to; "they are fine...they are seeding the server."

I'm curious what this means. How do spectate players not helping either team for such a long period of time help seed anything when the server is busy?"

I'm not complaining about admins or the balancing of teams. I've never typed "teams" and really don't care about slightly unbalanced teams because usually within a few minutes that will balance itself with new players joining. However, multiple players taking up player slots in spectate gets annoying when you are playing your little-heart out! :)

Thank you for addressing my concern and keep up the great work!

If there are spectators in a full server, they need to be kicked to allow other players in. We're only supposed to seed the server if the server is not full.

What stewie said is pretty much it, but in answer to the question of what seeding is (assuming that's what you meant?), players tend to go AFK or sit in spectate to help fill up a server, and usually they'll leave or ask to be kicked if the server gets full.

When specs are in server it wont matter how many are spec's provided there is one space for a new player to enter, when a player enters you kick another spec until server is full with playing players. I have found over the years if a spec wont play he wont play so I leave spec's there to seed.

If there is 32 players and someone is in spectate for several minutes, that person needs to be removed.
Doesn't matter if you're a player, =e= =eg= or =ego=, (unless you're recording a demo).

Seeders should be thanked upon removal, for performing a service.

Alicia, to further answer your question, about why "seeding" our servers matter, or remaining in spectator.

Is that someone browsing the server list when they first join, will see more players on the server, and
this can sometimes entice them to join. Because someone is more likely to join a server that says it
has 31 players, than 10 players.

and that is why seeding matters.

But Warren...I thought because I'm playing "someone is more likely to join the server!" Oh wait, I'm trying to be humble. Thank you. That explanation is also helpful.

FYI - Your quote / statement below that image is very nice!

I always kick specs if server full - I hate trying to join a server and see players with 0 kills and been sitting on server for long time -anyway thanks

If u see me idleing and u need the room i dont have no promblem u kicking me to make room

London,

I didn't realize this was the comment that you meant. So funny! Actually I think it is the other way around as they join to play with you. If any Axis players are lining up 4 abreast to join you know what my goal will be!

Have a wonderful day
