Syntax

The creator is RedDragonKnight and all credit goes to him for the map, I am just trying to give suggestions on how to play the map, I did not create the map.
Rebeling & playing ct on Syntax.
The thing about syntax is that it’s not the biggest map. There is a pretty small vent system and the map is made up of five main areas.
Pool, cell block, disco hallway, soccer area, and the playground area.
The two areas that are for games, is the playground area and the soccer area. The disco staircase is mostly just used for heal, and maybe disco for an iso maybe. Cell block a dead give-away for what it’s used for. Pool, the final area is mostly used for a swift connection between disco/playground to soccer area.
Rebling.
Vents.
The vents on the map can be complicated, there are two cell block vents. However, they open and close within rounds. I have found the most success when in a cell, very close to the vents. If you have a cell closer to stairs, then you shouldn’t go for vents. The first cell on the bottom layer is the vent cell and the second on the top layer. When being a T, you have to be careful running for vents, because the CTs have a CT area, right next to vent cells. The ladder is a CT area, and trying to go up the ladder, is a troubling task. However, jumping down the vent, is pretty easy task, as you take little to no fall damage. And, when going up, you would have to go past one cell and go to the next, where as on the top, you could simply just jump down and into the first cell.
If you have the vent cell right away, you could try one of two things. 1. Get the gun in the vent and come back. Then, stack up on the middle stairs, and start shooting at the Ts. Or, you could go to get the M4A1 at the start of laser room.
Once you have the m4, then you have two choices. 1. Go to stars wars room, 2. go to pool. Personally, I go to pool if there is a smaller amount of CTs, CT < 4. If there are more CTs, I like to head to stars wars. I break the vent with my knife and wait a good 10 seconds, to see if anyone noticed. If someone noticed, then generally then head down the vent, and I wait in the bottom with my Zeus. If nobody noticed, then I hope up there, sneak to the back of stars, and slowly kill them off. When killing them, I go for the ones in stars wars myself and then let the others come to me.
In the vents, you have three places to go to. Most people go to M4 and get that, and you could also go and get the USP-S that’s closer to the cell vent.
When you get out of pool vent, you can have a few options. 1. Head to the middle of the pool, and get the p250 or nades. 2. Head to the rocks and grab the deagle for a good secondary. 3. Kill the CT in kitchen on a surprise attack. 4. Go close to disco room, and kill them off one by one as they come past you to go to climb/frogger. If they head to soccer area, then I would suggest killing them off from cell block, also hiding in between kitchen and the island in kitchen is also a good strategy.
Cell tips.
Syntax is actually one of the best maps to hide in your cell. There’s only one spot in the cell that would expose you, and that’s right on top of the toilet. I person only hide in my cell if they are going to the soccer area because then all the CTs have no chance to see if, unless they are pursuing, or breaking a rule. Then you could be free to run right into armory and get yourself a weapon.
One tip that I like to use is the two closest cells to kitchen, on the top and the bottom, have a HE in them. The main reason why I like these nades, is because if we’re going into kitchen, then mostly likely, as a T, you will be follow your warden, and stacked up. Then, you can simply throw the nade and get easy chip damage. This is also a pattern on other maps, like Alcatraz has smokes in the last cell closest to pool.
The weapons in the cells are not all too good compared to other maps. There is no USP-S (probably a good thing) and no zeus. There are smokes, nades, and molotovs. The molotovs are only found on the cells closer to the vents, and can actually be very helpful. The thing to be careful of on syntax is that the “gate” or fence in front of the cat walk, and be knifes, and nades can be thrown through them. This means, that you could use one of the molotovs, and through it into the CT area in front of the vent cells, use it as a distraction and run quickly into the vent cell.
If you don’t get lucky enough to get a vent cell, and you find yourself on main cell stairs, then you have a few options. Most of the time, cts don’t like to be in kitchen, and it’s very easy to run into kitchen. I personally believe that the CTs don’t like to be in kitchen because it’s not directly with the Ts, but it is considered being with the Ts, and it won’t get you in trouble. Getting in and out of kitchen is easy, but getting to weapon can be difficult to get. If a ct is running after you, it’s very easy for them to kill you because it’s an open area with not too many places to hide.
I would not suggest going for the deagle in rocks if a ct is chasing after you. Instead, you could get the p250/nades in pool, and head over to the lockers. If you get the p250 from pool, then you already have a weapon, but if you just get an HE, then use said HE to break down the wood in front of lockers. And follow the step to kill the cts, said in the vents area.
If you are struggling to rebel, then you should just simply make a move. The good thing about Syntax, is that ? health shot areas still work.
Also, in the list below, the healthshot comes with a zues and different nades.
Heathshot/zues areas:
Kitchen (cellblock kitchen)
Bushes behind red soccer goal
The merry-go-round in front of s4s.
(The one that doesn’t work, is at the computer in front of laser room)
So, if want to make a quick move, you can most likely only take one or two shots, doing near 50 total damage, the amount a health shot repairs your lost health.
When traveling to a game, you have some options to go. If you’re headed into the climb/frogger area then you’re in luck. You can have two areas in head into. You could head down into the disco hallway, or going into pool. Both areas have access to easy guns and the staircase has instant access to heal.
However, if you’re headed into the soccer areas, you’re most likely out of luck. One strategy that I have used once, is to collect the zeus and health shot in kitchen, then wait in the doorway of Kitchen and soccer. It will most likely show the voice chat icon over the ct’s head, and then you can pop out easily and get an easy T kill. So, don’t think that a zeus is useless.
On syntax, compared to other maps, there aren’t that many guns around the map. Only a few in selected areas.
Gun spots
Inside of pool, middle circle (press e, or your action button, on the vent)
In the corner of the rocks in soccer
The Third step of disco (vent like, must break)
Locker room
Star Wars room
The top (winner's area of climb 2)
Race (1/3 chance)
Vending Machine (small chance)
The electrical box (In the CT area right infront of the vent cells)
The trick to killing, as a T, on syntax, is the element of surprise. Because there are only 2 primaries on the map (and they are kind of hard to get to) you’ll have to use the CT’s weapon. If you use the deagle, it’s pretty easy to get a headshot, you should pick off a straggling CT. If someone is still is Star Wars room, and the rest of the CTs are taking the Ts into race, then pick off the one in Star Wars, and use his (her) primary.
Although there are few guns on this map, you still have a good chance to get an “armory set up”. An armory set up is a term I like to use, it just means, you would have the same weapons that a CT would, therefore giving you a better chance to kill them. The only primary you could really use is the M4A1-S in the cells, and then just yourself a deagle in the rocks or disco.
Laser room.
The only entrance to laser room is from the vents. At the start of laser room, there’s an M4A1-S, that you could just simply take a run away. But, if you want to go for armory, then there’s a way easy way to do it then you think. Just run right through the lasers. I have found myself taking up to 33 damage from the laser when I run right through, and then you can just use a healthshot.
Once you would get through the lasers, you will be greeted by a set of heavy armor. Unlike the s4s arena, you can actually use the heavy armor, like it’s meant to be used.
LRs.
As a T you do have a good bit of options as what to do for an LR. Of course, if you’re going for T kills and you still have a lot of CTs left, then I would do a joke day. I would suggest dropping a gun if you get one. Then, you could have all the CTs against the wall, and once you kill them, getting a gun wouldn’t be hard. That’s pretty much all I have to say about LRs, mainly because they are what you want to do. Also, don’t be afraid to kill them if you see an opportunity.
Playing CT.
On syntax, there are few CT areas, so most of the time you will find yourself on the same ground, following T’s footsteps.
All things considered, playing the map as a CT should be easy, however, you have to have a successful, CT team.
One, or maybe two (if you have a bigger team) CTs should be watching the vent cells. One ct should be in star wars room. Winning the battle is stars wars room, is very easy, because they only go for one area, the USP-S. The last spot that you should be watching, is kitchen. A ct near the T armory is always a good idea. Then, a T will run into the kitchen, and it will be a very easy kill.
If there are extra CTs then, you could put another one in star wars room or kitchen. Personally, I like to keep the vent CT area with two CTs, mainly because it will get way to crowded, and people can’t see the vent or a T running into it.
The thing about the vents are syntax are that they are behind a very thin wall. Wall banging through that wall is very easy, and you could just kill them before they get into the vent. It’s even easier if they have to break the vent, then it should be a very easy kill. Also, the vents have a straight part before they can get into the actual system, so, if they get into the vent, don’t stop shooting.
War days: On syntax, there are map forced war days, which means that once a T will take one step of out his cell, then he will be teleported into the T armory. When playing ct I personally like to pick up an AUG out of armory. Then I would sit behind the rocks/playground and start shooting. This plan is very effective if you have a ct with you that has a scout. Then, you would just have to hit the T once or twice, and the scout can finish them off.
Plan 1. There is one very easy game to get the Ts to, is frogger. As warden, you only really have to have one other good CT. You should have one CT go into the disco area. You should tell the Ts to follow you, then put a spray against the wall. Tell all the Ts to stack up on the spray. Then, tell the Ts to hug the wall into frogger. You shouldn't have to worry about a gun because they are none where the Ts are going.
Of course, you should take at least 33% percent of the Ts. Your next step is to tell them to hug the same wall they came in on. You should have one CT in front of the disco stair case, and one CT following behind the Ts. Once you get into the disco area, ask them to hug the wall closer to soccer, until they arrive at soccer. If you have more than two Ts, then I would take them to Colours, and if you just have two, then take them to soccer. If you want, to not deal with pool, then you could take them to Connect 4, if you have two of them. If you feel risky, then you could try to take them to climb.
Plan 2. Taking them to race. You have to have more (good) CTs for this plan. Have one CT go into the kitchen (zues) area. The other CT would send over to the middle of soccer, or over by Colours. The remaining CTs should be at the back, checking cell block or pursuing.
Tell the Ts to shift walk (or whatever walk) follow their warden. They should then stack up on a spray of bullets at the end of kitchen. Tell them to hug the wall, and keep hugging it until they reach the start of race. Simply do with race with them until you have 33% percent of Ts, and then take the remainders to Colours or soccer.
There (hopefully) will be more "wardening" plans to be added here shortly either as I find them, or they are suggested.
Sometimes the problem with syntax as warden is that there are only 5 games that you can play to pick a lot of Ts off. Frogger is good, the climbs are good, and race is good. If you have 10+ Ts, then I would suggest doing a race, that’s not in the actual race. Tell the Ts to race from the main cell stairs to the gate of armory or a spray. I would suggest eliminating 1 or 2 Ts, mainly because in most races, it’s pretty obvious that one is a behind, so you can get an easy T kill as a CT.
LRs.
LRs on the map can be good or bad. Because I’m trying to follow the rules here, I can really only give suggestions if are the CT sitting out.
LRs will most likely take place in one or two places. The soccer area, or the playground area.
If you have an LR in the playground area then I would suggest going into the disco staircase. There you will be able to have, of course, the comfort of heal. Also, you have three different pinch points, kitchen, heal, and disco. If you find yourself in disco, then I would just go into the CT area (where you pick the songs) and kill them when the T pushed down the staircase. Another reason why I say this area is good, because if you, as the ct, has to pursue, then you could just simply hop into pool, and have another easy pinch point. If the LR is s4s, connect 4 or frogger, then I would suggest going into the CT areas of climb. These areas have a lot of corners for you to hide you, and peak when appropriate.
If you the LR is in the Soccer area, then you don’t have as many spots. There are two spots that I have found good in this area, and they are Colours and rocks. Because you’d be sitting out, you don’t have to be with the Ts. The loser’s area of Colours I have found good because you can watch race, bushed and the red goal from the area. If they are in the blue goal, or around there, then you should go into the CT area, to be able to watch them. One thing to be careful of here is that the walls are wallbangable, so watch that.
CTs & Guns
CTs, I would keep in mind that picking up a T weapon is against the rules, but luckey for you, in many spots you don't have to worry about that. RDK has made it so that, you can't pick up the "gun spawns" in pool and vending machine, and you can't pick up the healthshots/zueses.
Tips & tricks.
I’ve learned that you have a really small percentage to pull an AWP out of the pool vent. That’s the only possible way to get an AWP, but the chances, like most RDK maps, are very small. Of course, if you manage to get this, the round I think is a bit over. I mean, it’s an AWP, on a close and open map, the CTs have nowhere to go. Also, this AWP is a T weapon, so CTs don’t go rushing into pool just to see if you can get. (if anyone has any more information about the awp, would love to hear it).
In your cell, you have two moveable items. The first item is a chest, in which, you can break with your knife. However, there is a chair, which you can’t break what so ever. So, if you really feel edgy, you can drag that chair out of the cell, and push it around the map. In fact, there is a person that goes by the name of Sigma, that has married the chair and named it Maria.
One thing to be careful of is that the blue “air space”, shall I say, is around %50 wallbangable. Bullet going through this wall will have trouble killing your target. These blue areas are found in colours, loser and CT area, and the star wars room in cell block. So, if you pop out of the vent in star wars room with the M4, and land a headshot on a CT through the blue, then most likely, that bullet will only do about 50 damage.
On syntax, the Ts are missing head armour, however the Ts do have head armour. That's just one thing to keep in mind if you want to start a head-glitch battle, or do s4s.
I, personally, think that syntax is a pretty balanced map. However, as I say that I think that you have to have a good ct team for that to be a true statement.
Keep in mind, this guide is just simply what has worked for me and my personal opinions on how the map should be played. You are welcome to criticize me, and also add suggestions to the guide if you want them to be added. (by the way, RDK, in the case I got something terribly wrong, I apologize, doing this from a player's view)
