If you want to sell the paint, it's much easier to sell through actual item trading (monetary buyers are quite rare for items like this). Expensive items 99% of the time don't actually sell on the community market, because the prices are usually inflated due to steam taking receiving some of the money. Although more effort is required, trading and interacting with someone is not only more likely to succeed but more profitable for you if you're looking to get rid of the paint.
That being said, the paint itself doesn't seem to be a hot commodity in terms of actual appearance, so regardless of the unusual status I'm hesitant to say you'd ever even find a buyer. It's likely you can quicksell the item, but I doubt you'll get the full worth of the item back anytime soon.
