Mac Mouse issues

Hey so I am back at school with an old mac book pro since my windows laptops died. I plugged in my microsoft sidewinder mouse and I can tell it is really off, I tried adjusting the settings and its still bad.

Is there any microsoft/3rd party software i can download to fix this?

Have you tried another mouse with the machine? That is a fairly old mouse, no? I don't see much about using it with a Mac online at all, other than software for it basically being non-existent.
