Lag Issues

For a couple months now i have suffered from random lag spikes...they last anywhere from 3-30 seconds (some lasting longer). I run a spyware/ virus check every morning so the cause of this is beyond me...anyone ever have this same problem or know what it is and how to fix it?

I've been having a lag problem as well, and am at the point of blaming my motherboard for it crappyness. Watch your ping and see if that spikes. You need to know if it is a difference between internet or hardware lag.

Does it stay on one frame the whole time? Does your sound loop? Does your computer ever reset or shut down after lagging for a few seconds?

Also, post if you have done any overclocking or driver updates lately or right before this problem started.

One thing that may be the problem, (it was for me) I use a program called Diskeeper, which automatically defrags my pc if it gets fragmented. I would get MAJOR lag spikes in game where it would just freeze up for sometimes minutes. I went into the task manager and closed DKservice.exe which is the process from that program. Bye bye lag spikes. If you use that program, that could be your problem, if not, it could be another program that is doing something in the background.

A couple of things I've noticed that cause spikes for me-

Thunderbird (or any email client) running in the background and checking email periodically
Firefox windows open with Flash running (try the Flashblock extension)

Also, have you had these since you started playing goldrush? I don't know if it is the map or if there's something odd about the server we're running it on, but I get weird spikes of odd lag there that I don't get on, say, dustbowl, gravelpit, or convoy.
