Unusually high ping/ latency NEED HELP!

I have no idea why this has happened, but it might be due to the fact that my wireless G adapter isn't good enough? !dodge
I did have one that worked perfectly until it broke a few days ago, giving me the suspicion that my new replacement wireless adapter SUCKS!

Everything has been great up until the last couple of days. My internet connection signal is 'excellent' and the internet does seem to be good. However, whenever i join a COD4, CS:S, or TF2 server my ping shoots sky high!( 200+)

I'm not a computer guy, i just play the games, but this is no fun!

If anyone has any suggestions please don't hesitate to reply. i have looked at other forums and it seems that the only conclusion i can come to is that the adapter i am using is crap.
(i have checked on numerous sites, what m internet speed is, and supposedly i can download at a rate of 2 mbps!!! but i still have lag and high CHOKE in source. my Bro's connection works fine he has ping in the 40s and lower.)

ALSO, my new adapter is a wireless USB with RangePlus.

another thing...i just tried my brothers adapter and the ping is still in the 200s and higher!

there must be something wrong with my computer, i have no idea, please help! thanks !dodge

i got a new video card, maybe that's got something to do with it, do i need to update any drivers or something?

i'm not sure that the video card would mess with your ping, but it never hurts to make sure you have the most up-to-date drivers.

it sounds like you have some software in the background that is affecting your performance. did your new adapter come with software? if so, you should probably remove any software you installed for it and let windows configure the wireless network. also, check and see what else might be accessing the internet, i.e. antivirus software, update software, etc. hit ctrl-alt-del and take a look at everything that's running.

Not sure if this helps but just so you know: The more people using the connection at once, the slower it will go. My ping is usually about 50-60 but goes up to 200 if someone is streaming video on another computer.

Would not want to be on that connection xD

I have about 5 computers using my connection (15/15) Ping remains around 100 whether I'm uploading or downloading or if anyone else is.
