What's going on eGO fam!

Was wondering how hard or willing you guys are to accomplish the following:

  • Update/refresh the graphics/textures of the Dust2 CSS map, for something modern? I have seen some nice designs out there, at least to make it look like the CSGO map.
  • If the map is going to be updated, also some nice new uniforms will be needed, and there are plenty of these!
  • Include a female character for CT & T! We have females and LGBT players here, I am sure they will appreciate it and keep a high traffic in the server ;)
  • To conclude these updates, how about if the basic rules are added to the CT & T spawn walls eg: PLS Be out spawn by 1:30, don't rebuy nades, don't team flash etc... Make it look nice, no just a white square with them in it :) more like a brush graffiti type of thing or similar. This definitely will help the admin team.

Don't really know how the texture images work in CS, or how hard this can be. I am just leaving this for your consideration and if I can help some how, count me in. CSS still strong but disperse, let's bring more people home! :thumbup1:

Let me hear what your thoughts are regarding this and thanks in advance!

Probably not going to update the map as it is a stock map that people already know and have. Custom maps require downloading which could cause people to not want to play.

CSS allows players to have their own skins that are client side. Server side skins require players to download them and as mentioned earlier this could cause people to not want to play here.

I believe some of the points you specified have already been brought up HERE. Additionally, there was a separate discussion HERE, which consisted of changing the chat color to something more noticeable/visible and changing the functionality to something similar to what we have on CS:GO. Both of these were given the green-light and is something to look forward to.

Hopefully this helped :thumbup1:

As someone who's been playing the CSS Dust2 server on and off for about 9 years now, I feel these kind of changes would kill the server. I enjoy the experience because our Dust2 is very vanilla - it's the game as Valve meant it to be played, requires no downloading, etc. A lot of people like playing the older source games because they are more compatible with their machines, and have those lower quality textures. We've had the same players for a very long time, and I feel it would drive long time regulars off doing a fairly drastic change.

Keep in mind also that Dust2 also already suffers from some issues with the high number of players on it - the Source engine was not designed to handle high slot servers like that and with how the engine functions, it is very difficult enough already for the server to keep up with processing so many players, shots, entities, etc. Adding more may only hinder existing performance problems.

Such maps do exist with nice textures and all, etc. We experience similar things on Day of Defeat: Source - another long time eGO server (the first and original one!). Any small change has been an issue. Anything drastic would be detrimental, so we leave it as is, and we still see the server fill every day. Dust2 experiences something similar, I feel.

First of all thank you for getting back to me.
However, based on my experience on other servers where I have played for some time as well... The download time you are referring to is just a few seconds and should be the first time while the resources are loaded. Instead, it will bring more attention from players around to say eGO updated their Dust_2 map let's check it out and be able to retain those players. As for current players, my recommendation was made in big part from hearing comments for quite sometime about how much they don't like CSGO but wished source will have an update with new graphics, therefore I believe it shouldn't impact the current traffic. Perhaps making a poll with a design for people to vote on will help.

Once again, thank you for your reply :thumbup1: however I see more benefits than negatives by just trying.

Cheers!

I love the creativity, but having more things to DL on the server will make it run slower. People love as much registry and performance-enhancing as they can get on a 64-slot server. This would only slow things down which will make people very agitated.

Great suggestion though!
