I didn't expect much, and I am still disappointed

Hi! I'm Jcornt, and this is my first time posting on Edge Gamers. I don't really look at the forums and I just play with friends over the Teamspeak server and I also play the CS:GO servers.

A little background about myself: I love surfing. I've surfed since 2014 and I have hundreds upon hundreds of hours playing the maps on different servers. It's a great way to wind down while listening to music after a day of work, or just hang out and talk to random people about anything you'd like.

Even before the merger with Prestige Gaming and Edge Gamers the surf server had been broken. Zones would be half done, maps would be broken, secrets would not work, Server Record times would be invalid, and any hopes of reaching that #1 spot was a pipe-dream due to times being glitched and not removed after the fix to it. I still play on the server regardless, since I started playing back in 2014 on the Prestige Gaming server.

The old server's issues had persisted for over a year with almost no attention.

The Update to the server a couple days ago included:

>Changing the tick rate from 120 tick (or 102.4, I don't know) to 85 tick

I personally like this change. For anyone who doesn't know what tick rate is and how it affects surfing, it indicates how many ticks there are per second on a server. On the new tick rate there are 85 ticks per second.​

The reason why this is important for surf servers is that the higher tick rate servers allow players to reach higher speeds, however a ramp glitch may occur.​

A ramp glitch just stops you dead in your tracks. Although you may go slower on the 85 tick server you avoid the frustration that a ramp glitch brings when you're at the end of a map you've been struggling on.​

>Changing the current plugin to the IG plugin

I'm a little confused as to why this occurred. The plugin that was implemented changes map zones and bonuses. These bonuses are really just niche on IG, and they're pretty weird and dumb. Some are just walking five steps for a time... The old plugin had issues, yes, but it can be fixed, as far as I know, easily.​

Fixing the Server Record bot, only for it to break within the next day

This one is the most disappointing. If you are new to a map and you want the best time you typically watch the best person that has completed the map to find their route. If there's no bot there then you're making it up as you go.​

Replacing the surf styles with new styles that don't have their own leaderboard, and removing Parkour

There are some other ways you could surf on the old plugin, you could choose sideways, where you can only surf with "A" and "D" key, backwards, etc. On the old plugin you could choose that style and if you beat the map you would get points on the leaderboard for that specific style.​

The most used custom style that we had on the server was the parkour mode. Parkour makes maps easier for new players, but if you are trying to go for the best time possible it makes the map completely different in the fact you are going incredibly fast, and you have to find a new route when completing a map.​

So how do we fix the Surf server?

1. Change the map directory entirely. I can help with this as can many other surf server regulars. Some popular maps like surf_aircontrol are not in the server, but we have a map like surf_2pacisalive (???)

2. Fix the Server Record bot. I know this is probably the hardest one, but this is quintessential in building a popular surf server. New players will be able to learn how to surf by watching the server record bot and they won't just quit after trying for an hour.

3. Bring back Parkour. Some of the regulars only played this surf server for parkour mode (MarksmanEAB) . It's a great tool to use when trying new things.

4. Don't use the IG Plugin. The plugin carried over weird map endzones, silly bonuses, and a second class UI while playing.

I understand that not many of you in leadership or TT play on the surf server, but if you ask the community over there what needs to be done I believe they will echo what I've put in this post.

I agree with literally everything you said.
Thank you for taking the time to speak for everyone in the surf server about this subject. I can tell you I for one am extremely greatful, I couldn’t have said it better my self. Everything is a +1 for me, the replay bot is one of the most important parts of surfing expecially when you are new! Learning maps as a new surfer, it’s just extremely important. Also the whole reason Surf_beginner and surf_aircontrol were removed is because people on surf believed to think they were the reason the server was crashing a lot about a year ago now. I think it’s about time we add those simple maps back for new surfers. I have been playing this server since late 2016, and have a total play hours of (around) 37 days on this server alone. I am more then willing to help the surf server in anyway.

see, this is a good example of the posts that people need to make, just complaining without stating all the broken things and broad descriptions like the zones are broken doesn't help. This however is actually a good suggestion post, states what's wrong states why it needs to be fixed. Thank you good sir for doing this.
but I totally agree, I loved playing parkour cause I didn't actually know how to surf well, Im sure others feel the same way. so +1 from me for everything

Abdul I don't know if you even have the old plugin from when Kieran made the first rendition of the surf server, but it was a much more simple and clean version.

From what I understand from talking to him about it, that plugin seems a bunch easier to edit.
