Exclusive: Muropaketti.com got the first pictures of Asus EAH3850 Trinity graphics card which is equipped with three 55 nm RV670 GPUs. Asus engineers have managed to build this proof of concept using MXM graphics modules from notebooks and AMD’s CrossFireX technology. All three MXM modules include RV670 GPU and not decided amount of memory (likely 512 MB). Two of the modules are located on back side of the PCB and the third one is on the front side. All GPUs are cooled with heatpipes which are routed to rear of the card and attached to separate liquid cooling solution. PCB has an additional 8-pin PCI Express power connector and the card features four DVI display connectors. Currently there are no information about the clockspeeds or availability. All we know so far is that the card actually works.

When two GPUs on one card becomes plain then you know it's time to step up and that's what Asus was probably thinking when it decided to make the Trinity. This cool name that never gets old is of one graphics card with three GPUs working in a compact CrossFireX setup.

Taking up two slots, the EAH3850 Trinity has three mobile RV670 chips and is cooled by a combination of aluminum heatsinks, copper heatpipes and an enclosed water cooling system. The three 55nm GPUs all have their dedicated memory and make use of a 256-bit memory interface. Featuring one 6-pin power connector for extra wattage, the Trinity also has four DVI connectors. The card's clocks and actual availability haven't been decided yet.

my god, what would you need that kind of video power for... the gx2 runs everything as it is let alone 6 gpus on this baby

Skeith, there are not 6 gpus...there's 3. If you think you can crossfire/sli two of these cards, think again. SLI and Crossfire cannot link more than 4 GPUs (for now). So no, it's not overkill. They're trying to get as much power onto one card as possible. If you do that, you don't need a second card (and the PCB, which is expensive) or the extra power that the second card requires.

Overkill for the average user, yes, but not to us (me and my "group") overclockers. "The Persuit of Performance". Nothing is overkill for us.

This is another rediculus waste of money becasue they have nothing else to do. That set-up, besides running 1000$+, will run any game out to date. but why spend 1000+ when you can spend around 300 and get a card that will run anygame out to date.
o yea, nvidea kills ATI in video preformance.
