Getting a better ping

i was wondering if anyone knows some tweaks to get better ping on DoD
i have set rate, cl_updaterate, cmd rate, allowup/download to the best possible for a 56k modem

if theres any others can you list them

btw everything like AIM, MSN, YIM arent on
