Looking for a laptop

I'm in the market for a latop.

What I need from it
I want it to be fast
The ability to play games
Basic movie/TV streaming

What I will use this for
The goal is a laptop that I can take with me while traveling by plane/car. Mainly used for schoolwork, occasional small gaming(not shooters or anything I can play on my current PC, just casual on-the-go games), video editing, and other basic shit.

The price range would be under a grand. I have no experiences with laptops as I bought my PC when I was 12. Any help is good help

Depending on how much gaming you decide to do, the Acer Nitros and Dell G3/G5 laptops are good value with dedicated graphics cards.

As far as build quality and just nice to haves go lenovo has some lower end thinkpads like the t480 or t490 that aren't as crazy spec wise but are very nice

I got bored and was looking at the forums, not sure if 2 months later you're still looking but... Star don't get a Dell G3/G5... I have a G5 5590 and Overwatch was running at 6 FPS!! The battery doesn't hold a charge anymore and its only been a year and 154 days at time of writing, it just shuts off when I unplug the cord. Luckily (sorta) I have warranty till December of this year and after spending 2 hrs on the phone with Dell doing routine troubleshooting, downgrading the drivers, and turning off Intel Turbo Boost I got them to execute the In-Home tech option on the warranty. They aren't going to replace the battery...apparently it has its own warranty that has to be purchased (good to know dell...)

The tech came within 2 days and changed the cooling unit and fans...its running at 60FPS again but who knows how long this will last. For the record, gaming on this laptop has been hit or miss, it gets way too hot and loud. I searched online and I haven't been the only one with issues with this laptop. I've never had an issue with any of their laptops till now. Lesson to pass on today...grab the warranty even if you know what you're doing lol... read reviews on cooling not just look at the spec sheet like I did, it looked good on paper but if it gets too hot you might as well be gaming with a potato.

like every gaming laptop on the market is loud and overheats unless it’s one of those 4 inch thick msi ones, also a cooling pad with fans you can get off amazon would help greatly

battery wise constantly charging it in a hot environment is the death of every lion battery ever Lol

to give an update... Dell corporate is having the battery, mobo, and ssd replaced next week. and yea theres way too much being crammed i guess into laptops now. I agree with you Meyers lol. I just want to get it fixed at this point and sell it honestly.

i had this same problem on my old laptop, it wasn't even a dell. i looked everywhere on the internet and couldnt find a fix. just tossed it and got a pc for half the price of that thing. best decision ever
