Windows 11 Reveal/Thoughts

I personally absolutely despise Windows 11, I'll likely stick to Windows 10 on my PC until it reaches EOL or becomes like Windows 7 now is, once that happens I'll just jump over to Fedora or Debian. I had been wanting to do so on my PC for a long long time but never really did for a variety of reasons, all of my other computers are already on Linux, just not the main one. Windows 11 was the final nail in the coffin, at least for me.

Again, I have been wanting and considering it for years. Main reason I didn't was having to learn a new DE, and porting annoyances. With W11, all of that goes out the window (or should I say out the 11 Windows)

It’s still the same msdos underneath, it’s not like W7 -> W10 so I don’t think you’ll have porting issues, it’s really just a feature update on steroids, in fact they probably could have just slowed it down a bit and rolled it into W10 feature updates in the next couple quarters and no one would have even noticed

the choice to use linux as a daily is also interesting, you really have to have a certain passion to put yourself through that gl

Hah, it is still DOS underneath, I phrased my last post badly. The UI update pains me for 1, the background services they've added that I read about for 2, things I can't be bothered to type because I'm on my phone for 3.

Honestly, I've tested daily driving Linux on another PC. Surprisingly not that bad, there's just some weird font issues and scaling issues with CS:GO I couldn't be bothered to iron out. Everything else works better, more effiently, or the same pretty much. I just can't be bothered moving my files and applications (or equivalents) over, although the amount of time needed for that is less than getting used to W11's UI, stupidity, bugs, reconfiguring privacy options, waiting for ShutUp10 to update, etc etc. I also don't particularly like MS as a company.

Fair enough, the UI does look pretty bad IMO. I was a fan of ChromeOS but I would prefer Windows not just turn into that. It was nice the way it was before... I haven't heard about the background processes stuff but they already have a ton of shit running in the background so that's surprising

I mean yeah Debian/Arch with a full desktop environment are pretty much just as easy to use as Windows/MacOS now with all the features, so it is definitely plausible. Wine/Proton are also doing very well so it might be a good alternative. But as far as bugs go, you're in for a world of pain, almost everything you do in Linux will require much more user input and configuration than comparable Windows applications, it's not nearly as user friendly once you get into the thick of it. Troubleshooting is also just as much not fun as Windows

At least you'll get a lot of cool reactions when you show people how much of a hacker you are when GRUB pops up in public
