New DOD is garbage?

1. The iron sight on the rifle is too fast. The iron sight is useless now because you can't fine-tune your aim = fail
2. Freezecam = fail
3. Shot registry = fail
4. Invalid steam Id = fail
5. Rocket is waaay too weak. I mean cmon, how can a huge explosion from a bazooka not kill someone instantly? = fail
6. Funky colors on the screen when you look at something the wrong way = fail
7. MG moving too fast when deployed = fail
8. Achievements = cool

Giggles... I find it funny how you started all this by saying "I and Bullet"... lololol!! and I have yet to comment. The truth about it all from my perspective isn't too far from what Giggles and most of you have had to say, but how I feel kind of is.
I actually am happy that there was an update first of all, because it shows that steam didn't forget about DOD:S and that they are trying to improve on it. However like i said many times around the forums and in game, it's not the update itself that I have a problem with, it's the fact that DOD:S before the update for me was playable on my computer, and now it's very difficult and nearly impossible. However despite getting shafted by the update, this wont stop me, because I ordered new parts for my computer that same night, and the truth is I missed playing with the eGO members more then I missed playing the game itself, so lately for the past two days I've been playing DOD:S with half a monitor visible lolol :D and anyone that's been there watching me can see how frustrating it is for me in spectator mode, lolol!! ^^ Anyways! I'll see you guys in the game :) hopefully my computer parts arrive tomorrow.

Im not exactly a fan, the game used to have a pretty serious feel, between the explosion graphics, sounds and kill cam, all of a sudden it turned into the comic book that tf2 is, loved tf1, that was my first real fps addiction, but tf2 turned me off instantly, valve did NOT need to show dod this kind of attention, this was a old concept game with great gameplay, and a hardcore fallowing of players, personally i dont think it needed this kind of attention. whats wrong with a simple, semi-serious, fun game? overall im not happy, but ill try to get used to it.

nuttin like a good vent =)

The Thompson is badly overpowered now. One good reason to use the BAR was because it was so much more effective than the assault weapons at medium to long range. Now there hardly seems to be any point. There are so many shots that can now be made easily with Thompson that were completely impossible before the patch. You can literally stand in the building windows on Donner and mow people down who are all the way down the street. I'm all for a buff for the assault weapons, but the changes that were made could potentially change the entire strategy and playing style for those classes because so many more shots and firing positions are now available to them.

Fact is that the new update has brought in new and old dods players in. In the eyes of valve the update has been a success. Learn to live with it, wait for the next update where all our bugs are fixed and have some fun. This game is still great, possibly even better than it was.

i skimmed this thread, but IMO DOD:S was absolutely PERFECT before the update....bottom line!

First off I would like to say that an update was in need. There were a few minor bugs that still existed and some of the weapons could be a little better. HOW EVER, this patch really messed things.
1.) PROBLEM: Looking at smoke causes me to literally get 15-20 FPS. So no sniping until they fix that. Smoke was fine before the patch. I don't know what they did to it but I am not the only person having the problem. Many people with high end systems are suffering the same bug.

1.) FIX: This is an easy fix, revert to the old smoke, or just undo what they did to it.

2.) PROBLEM: The cartoony explosions. I don't know if anyone noticed it, but the explosions have gotten less real. If I wanted cartoony explosions I would cruise on over to my TF2. Some people may like the new explosions, which is fine.

2.) FIX: This is easy to fix. Give the player an option to switch to either explosions. I don't know the technical side of this, not do I claim I do. To me it seems this would be a viable option. (or not, maybe its not possible to have two types of explosions)

3.) Problem: The assault class. I don't think anyone was complaining about this class before (or any class, I may be wrong), so why change it so you are a sniper on steroids? This does nothing to help the game. The class has no distinct feel anymore. Before you would use this class to storm the apartments in Avalance or the houses in Donner, but now you can sit with the assault class and pick people off that were previously out of the effective range of the weapon. This destroys the rifle as a viable class on many maps. Why get a rifle when you MIGHT go to the tank house in Donner or you MIGHT decide to take the fields. When you could do both almost equally with the assault. Sure you might be a little better in the fields with rifle, but you are sure as heck going to be a lot better everywhere else. The assault class simply blurs the line to much between the support and the rifleman giving no distinct feel anymore to the class itself. I have read that people think this keeps the noobs away because you can own them with the assault. This simply isn't true. If anything it will attract to many noobs because the class is so easy to use. I am sure anyone who is reading this has been shot in the head a few times more than normal by a strafing assault...I know I have.

3.) Revert the assault class to what it was before. If people want to complain maybe up the damage a bit more to make it more effective in close quarters.

4.) The achievements: If I wanted to play TF2, I would. I don't play DoD:S to get my "i just killed 1000 people with my rifle" achievement. They could have taken it in a new direction, which probably would have been a-lot better. I will explain in the fix. The achievements make the game feel like, well it just doesn't make it feel like a WW2 fps. There was no reason for this...

4.) FIX: This fix I think is neat. Instead of having these tf2 like achievements have other achievements. Ill give you guys an example. Lets say you are on Donner, and you are the axis. The game starts, instantly an achievement pops up to the WHOLE German team. It says "Take control of the main street!" Heck, they could even throw in the German voices. If you do it you get the achievement, if you don't, it might pop up again in the same map. This gives the game a feel like you have just received orders. Giving it an even more WW2 feel. There could even be achievements like "Keep the American street flag (the American second on Donner) for 30 seconds." And these achievements could have cool names like "Street sweeper".

5.) That pesky kill cam. Why would they put it in lol. So you can take a snazzy photograph? Please...Go into OBS and take pictures. I have no idea why they added it. Maybe because they wanted it to be like other popular games? Snipers can no longer hide and stay there with out being found out in their first kill.

5.) FIX: Keep the kill cam. But make the server default to a "Kill cam is off" setting. If someone on a server wants to turn on a kill cam, thats cool. But I think I speak for 99% of the snipers, campers, defenders when I say, kill cam ruins your hiding spot.

All in all many of these updates were not needed and even served (in my opinion) to make the game less of what it was. Well thanks for reading. :) Shane|T2 =FL=

I hated it at first but am pretty much used to it now. The only issue I still have is with my FPS... very annoying.

I started playing DoDS after the update, so I dont knowhow it was before but I think its a good game

Uhg this update has really turned me off of DoD. Unfortunately, I don't have the most up-to-date computer, so the new graphics like the explosions really mess with my computer. When I go in to play, like long streaks of neon looking light (i dont know how to describe it) streak my screen from like corner to corner. Its wierd.

I have no problems with it. I don't notice any difference in the way weapons handle, to tell you the truth.

No blocking = awesome.
Freeze Cam = evidently, awesome, because my hard drive is full of awesome F5 shots now.

Now if only they would add a pyro class and return the m1-carbine primary class...
