having yet another problem this time it's the internet.

I am trying to get my computer to connect to the internet (I am on my aunt's computer as of this moment.) I get a wireless signal of 100 percent but silly gigabyte card won't connect it and I have the cable plugged in and it won't connect that way either. The modem lights blink but its not working.

hi there...just a couple of quick questions about your setup. is your cable/DSL modem connected to a router, or are you connecting directly from the modem to your computer?

If you are going directly from the modem to your computer, you will need to power off the modem for 30 seconds and then plug it back in when switching from one computer to another. if you're using a router in between, try different jacks...maybe one of the ports is bad.

one more question - when you go into the command line and type out ipconfig...what numbers come up?

I have dsl And there are two modems? one doesn't have a place I can plug my cord in the second one says wireless router. Theres 3 plugs that say lan and mines placed in the last port. The lights are on where my cord is plugged in. Secondly I have wireless also, I can pick up there signal but it will not connect.

my first suggestion would be to disable your wireless card while you have it plugged in...sometimes having both connections can really confuse the computer. so, disable the wireless connection, then do the ipconfig /release then ipconfig /renew and see if that works. If not, then try swapping your cable to another port on the router.

are you running any sort of firewall software or anything like that? if so, disable the firewall and see if the connection starts working (e.g. norton, mcafee, zone alarm, etc.).

I disabled the card but its still not doing anything when i do the ipconfig thing.

you may need to reinstall some network protocols...check two things for me:

1) right-click on my computer, choose "properties," click the "hardware" tab, click "device manager" - are there any entries with either yellow or red circles next to them?

2) go to control panel, click network connections, then take a look under the "LAN or High Speed Internet" list...what's on that page? If there is a "local area connection," double click that and tell us the things shown on the first page.

about the first on i go to properties and theres no hardware tab. and the network connections says limited or no connectivity.

I FIXED IT! I WIN THE INTERNETZ LITERALLY! Theres this program called "network magic on her computer and I had to add my computer to the networky thing so I got it!

can some one close the thread?
