Hey all.
I picked up Photoshop the other week hoping to better my texture producing abilities for models. To do that, I thought making sigs would help me greatly.
Here is what I have come up with, none are eG yet, but I hope to get some out soon.

All comments are welcome

If you like, I might be able to make you one on request, and if I have time :)

Not too shabby!

The only comment I would really make (as you're starting with Photoshop) is this:

DON'T STRETCH IMAGES.

For example, #3, 5, and 6 above, you took a square or tall image and smooshed it to try to cram it into the frame. Unless that's actually the effect you are aiming for, it detracts from the image (and makes my brain hurt, and I track you down on an eGO server and dominate you to get rid of the pain, or at least die trying! :D)

Usually, though, what happens is you have a really cool image, and you want to show off all of it, but the image isn't big enough. It's tough to make it work, but the extra effort spent usually makes a better image:

Stretching the image to make it fit:

Make a copy of the image, shrink one down to fit, and make another copy as a detail copy, zoomed in on the important bit:

Anyway, I'll get off my soap box... you're images are a sight better than other first-run photoshop images I see, so you're going the right way! Don't be afraid to do multiple copies of an image to find the right version that works for you. The awesome bit about photoshop: Copy a layer multiple times, then do different things to each layer... make one really dark, one lighter, on all red... then take multiple backgrounds... and then switch layer visibility on and off until you find the perfect combination!

Ahh that's what others said.

Should have posted in order I made, #1 and #2 were made after I was told about stretching, then I scaled by Aspect Ratio.

Thanks for commenting!

Try using some different colours here and there?
All those up there are based around red, which leads to a lot of similar looking sigs.
Even if you were to make the whole thing in black and white, then play with the Hue/Saturation settings can often make a difference.

Just my 2 cents. :)

Yeah most of the colors of the characters I used were red, so I put a lot of red/black in.

New color styles could be better though =)

Just as a graphic design rule of thumb: Contrasting colors have better impact! My favorite is yellow and blue. If I can work yellow and blue into a design, I leap on it! (Think "WD40 Can")

If you use all the same colors, as a "color scheme", you end up with a murky monochromatic mush :D Just another thought :D

Yup which is why I used Red+Black.

I'm talking about a Blue+Red or Blue+Yellow (Blue+Yellow looks nice lol) character then matching the color scheme to them.
Coincidently they all were Red+Black though :).

A very true statement. Here is a link to a colour wheel, the colours opposite each other contrast very nicely and go very well together. http://www.diycalculator.com/imgs/cvision-ryb-primaries.gif

Sticking to two contrasting colours and maybe using a shade like black, white or grey as an accent is a good rule of thumb. Anyways happy photoshopping:)

Some really good info in that post :p. I always end up being guilty of stretching images.
