if you didn't already know he was joking then you might wanna have your head examined. I, by the way, am not joking.

dude if u saw the people i saw, u understand why i ask it....

a guy asked in history class 'did the cowboys really excist?'

iAtlantik you've got it all wrong. The world was created by either Cosmic easter bunnies, left handed freeblemiesters, the Titans (not the teen ones) or the IRS (who you gonna tax?). The guys down at Joe's told me all about it. There did seem to be a number of opinions about it so I have listed the most credible ones.

In the eighties all of the planets were supposed to line up and cause the end of the world. A simple equation found in any physics book could easily demonstrate that the gravity of all the planets lining up would have a minute fraction of the gravity attraction provided by our own moon didn't stop millions of goof balls from getting all worked up about the end of the world.

The world will end when it ends. Live your life well and it doesn't matter when the good Lord will call you to your final judgement.

In the mean time let's go capture a few flags!

For those who are questioning the 80's theories. Try researching The Jupiter Effect among many others. I guess our age is showing again Quaffer. Perhaps they will get their turn to discuss events after the Mayan predictions for 2012 and the incredible coincidental alignment of our solar system with the Milky Way galaxy. That is "if" we survive that one too.

For those who are questioning the guys at Joe's. How can they not take them seriously? A lot of great ideas have originated on a paper napkin there.

It seems we have hijacked your thread XeroX. I do I find your original topic fascinating. For now, I am concerned about the "big bang" coming from that guy with the shovel sneaking up behind me.

first of all, its particle physics , not quantum physics. second of all, its not a black hole machine, its an atom smasher, it hits particles together at near the speed of light to gain a greater understanding of the fabric of the universe via observation of the various subatomic particles. Its not at all dangerous, i dont know where people get this crap, go read a book or go to college or something...

I know its not a black hole machine, thats why i placed it in "...." Its what people nicknamed it, it is actually called a Large Hadron Collider, or known more frequently as a "Particle Accelerator" . Its not completely Quantum Physics, but this plays a large role in the advancement of Quantum Physics. Where you say it is not dangerous at all - In some respects i agree with you, but however we are heading into the depths of technology, where we do not know what will happen, its like pressing a red button in the middle of a room with nothing in it.

This is very true. However keep in mind that a great many people have spent a significant portion their lives learning as much as they can about this field and thinking about the consequences. This is a tool to learn more. You can take it to the bank that before they could justify the cost in euros and man hours that they had done a pretty good job justifying their plan. Hopefully they can learn something that will help to enrich us.

Two hundred years ago the concepts of enthalpy and entropy were as bizzar as witchcraft. Actually two hundred years ago you could probably find more practicing witches than thermal dynamicists.

Don't fear the tools of learning.

Fear my BAR!

There is also another reason for it besides proving the big bang theory; I believe it's also an experiment to find a new energy source from the collision of two atoms.
