Why can't we play on the same ip?

I asked this question in the avalanche server and all i got was a sarcastic comment back I asked why me and me and my bro can not play on that server with the same internet ip and someone in eGO said just because hes your brother doesnt mean u to can play togethert it can be ur half sister or something and steam wont allow it so that made me mad because all i asked was a question im not stupid and this was coming from another e like me and i got a little mad and hes like just relax u dont know who your talking to and this was the e who said it all i want to know is why me and my brother in the same house hold on the same internet ip can not play in some servers because when he was in the avalanche server i joined and it kicked him off and it did it to me as well so i rejoined and it was fine but he couldnt join still all i want to know is is there a setting in my router or is there a setting on the server thats all i want to know but that e couldnt answer that question he just been sarcastic so please help

All I want to know is if there is a setting in my router or on the server that can be changed to alleviate my problem. That was all I wanted to know, but that e couldn't answer that question, he was just being sarcastic.

Are you playing on separate steam accounts? Each account should have its own Steam ID.

I know I've had issues playing some games with friends which involved using the same router for internet multiplayer. SC and port-forwarding nightmares come back to me... CoH problems, too.

I haven't had any issues playing DoD while my roommate plays CS recently, however...

REpear and I play on the same conection. We do not have this problem, maybe its the way you have you lan set up.

Make sure you are using a router not a hub.
If using a Hub, get a router.
If using a router update the firmware.
Make sure you have DHCP and NAT turned on.
Do not use DMZ

And like Frank said you cannot use the same Steam account.

Yeah when Bradly is here we play DoD together without any issues. There was nothing special I had to do with the router, but I think there might have been a change I made to steam and/or DODs ...

Anyways, I know there are some people in eGO using the same Steam account. This includes couples of people of which only one has admin access, or a different level than the other. Please take into account that it is your shared responsibility, if one screws up, the other will find them taken the same action against. So please ensure you really trust your fellow-account holder

That's weird. I have a friend who shares my connection with a router when we play. It does give us both penalties on some Counter-Strike servers; we aren't allowed to watch the remainder of rounds after we die. I don't have any trouble in the EGO servers, though...

I have played sharing a router connection in the same room with paquitox and we never encountered this problem. So, as you said, check the router settings, maybe there's an option to assign diferent ip's

I wouldn't waste your time with the router company, as long as it's working properly anything else is out of their support. The only thing the router may be doing to prevent you both playing is blocking your outbound traffic and since you can both access the servers we know that's ok.
