Definition of a Glitch

Just to have it all in the clear, what is considered a glitch? Last year we had a ban request on the Warpath server(pre forum switch, see note) at which point I remember the definition being something that gives the player an unfair advantage with the opposing team being unable to counter. Now the ban forums are off limits to all but those applicable so I can't go back and check.

The reason that I ask is on the 2fort map I have found that as a demo you can jump to a spot on red base battlement that is not out of reach to opposing players, and I was warned by an eG, eGo Troth, and DangerDad were playing, with Troth killing me numerous times with out warning me to stop jumping to that point.

I would request that an eGo give the final answer to this.

Thank you,
Arcy

Note: The ban in question deals with a demo jumping to the top of one of the rock arches on warpath near the final CPs if memory serves.

Glitch and Exploits are really differents dude!!!
I think u talk about Exploit and not Glitch .... Glitch it's a bug .. u can fix it in console by typing: record demo and stopdemo
Exploit is different ... On eGO servers all exploits are not allowed!!
I hope ..my answer satisfy u ..!
See ya

I am not a fan of the spot above red battlements. Here is why:

1. You cannot be damaged by anything but a lucky demo unless they are practically on the bridge.

2. You are standing on nothing.

3. If you shimmy around enough, you can start to see through parts of red base spawn exit.

4. There is no comparable spot above blue battlements.

Now, I am talking about the uppermost point that you can jump to. This is a good 15 feet above the red battlement "awning." Not sure if that's where you're talking about or not...

Since I was the admin who warned you, it's only fair that I explain myself.

Firstly, thank you for taking this discussion off-game and onto the forums. This is much appreciated.

Secondly, it is possible that I use the words glitch and exploit interchangeably (and perhaps in lieu of a third word that would explain the situation better). I guess "unique positions" would be an appropriate description of where you were standing.

Lastly, there are two guidelines I consider before warning someone about "unique positions" (courtesy =(eGO)=™ BlindCow):
There are two general rules of thumb that weigh in here, the first and easiest is "Can the player be killed?" The second is a bit more subjective. One foot needs to be solidly planted so that the player is not, from any angle, standing on air alone. The subjectivity comes into play when determining what 'solidly planted' means.

While it was possible for the enemy team to kill you (albeit with much difficulty), you appeared to be standing in mid-air from my point of view.

EDIT:
2. You are standing on nothing.

This. ^

see I was unaware that I was standing on nothing I had thought that I was standing on the overhang above the windows.

The key is not what you see, but what others see :D

Your position isn't always accurately shown to yourself or other players. For example, if a Heavy is above you and point his minigun down to kill you, from your angle, the minigun does not tilt... but it still kills you :D

Perhaps, when adminning "unique positions" we should make sure we are completely 100% clear on what's wrong. Instead of "that is an exploit," perhaps "Player, you appear to be standing on nothing, and that is considered an exploit. Please come down and do not use that spot again. Thanks!"

Especially since we at eGO have codified what an "exploit" is considered; other players may not be used to such rules and need to have what we consider an explot to be explained :D

4. There is no comparable spot above blue battlements.

On the 2fort map the clip boxes are more mirrored than it appears, the spot in the middle of the red battlement tower wall that you can stand on is mirrored. On the blu battlement there is a set of speakers on the roof, the speakers can't be stood on, because if you try you will land on a clipping box slightly above the speakers. Both spots are at equal height and relatively mirrored position, both spots make you appear to be standing on nothing.

I just wanted to throw that out, because people keep saying "Blu has a spot but red doesn't!" or "Red has a spot and blu doesn't!" they both have the spot, and both get you a warning from the eGO rules since you don't appear to be standing on anything visible without the map editor.
