AVG help

Ive had the free version of AVG for almost 2 years now. It works great, and it never lets me down. About a month ago though i noticed the AVG icons disappeared. If i was lucky enough to find the .exe, i couldnt open it. So i uninstalled and installed the newer free version. I got this error... so after a bunch mroe tries with no progress i down-*ahem*... bought the latest, full version of AVG. i got the same error, so i deleted all things having to deal with AVG, tried both things again, and got the same error

here's what i get when i try installing:

Local machine: installation failed
Installation:
Error: Action failed for registry value HKLM\SOFTWARE\Classes\AvgDiagFile\DefaultIcon:: creating registry value....
Error 0x80070005

any help is appreciated.

Did you perform a clean uninstall of your previous AVG? That might be causing the problem.
Also, if you have spybot, disable the TeaTimer.

i dont really remember. i would think so, because i wouldnt mess with the registry before trying a normal uninstall.

and no i dont have spybot

1. Click on start------>settings------->control panel------>add remove programs------->then remove any antivirus software installed highlight them by clicking on them to remove them.

2.click on Start--->Run--->type: msconfig---->in the general go to diagnostic startup---->accept, close and reboot

Install the software it should install now.

Then reboot

then goto

Start--->Run--->msconfig---->in the general options to to normal startup--->accept, close and reboot

Or.... you could try the AVG remover that AVG offers on its website:

http://www.avg.com/download-tools

Download, run, and then try to reinstall the correct version you want.
